I doubt your greatest issue will be a place to rent, I think it will be this attitude you have which may hold in a country such as Egypt but doesn't wash as well here. The women were trying to tell you what you NEED to know, not what you want to know. Thank you AmyAus82, since Karen already knows everything about everything I'm surprised she even bothered to post on the forum Karen, no one spoke to you like you were stupid, I have reread my post several times and found it to be both insightful and informative as to life in Abu Dhabi. hey lanark.... you didnt say anything stupid... good information... obviously not what she wanted to hear.

Where am I coming from Lanarkwitch, in fact I am being relocated with my company from Cairo to Abu Dhabi and have found plenty of studios in my price range on Dubizzle and couchsurfing, wonderful site. I know exactly what the weather is like and the country not being dog friendly as I lived in Cairo, Egypt for 9 years. My dog is used to walking the streets as there is nowhere in Cairo to take your dog either. My company will help me with looking for an apartment but it will be a loan and I don't want to pay back a large sum of money so that's why I am looking for something monthly!!! I have come on this forum for help not to be spoken to as I am some sort of stupid woman. Lanarkwitch, if I can live in Cairo, I am sure I can live in an older building in Electra or Hamdan. Thank you for your advice anyway. r now then, if you had said you were coming from the likes of cairo then of course you will know a little bit like it is, but coming from the uk which most of the peeps are its somewhat very different. monthly well you will find that difficult, only really the likes of hotel apartments will do that, and you will find that a lot of people have a loan from a bank in order to pay their yearly rent cheque.

Sorry am confused, if you don't drive how are you going to get to work in the mornings? As I am sure you realise that accommodation in AD is outrageously expensive and your budget is extremely small, you will get neither balcony nor garden for your budget anywhere that I can think of unless you go off the island, the cost of travelling into the city by taxi would then be prohibitive. There are 1 or 2 places that dogs are still allowed here, but it is not very doggy friendly although the expat communities are obviously more happy to see doggies than local families. Also worth pointing out, there are pretty much no decent pavements/walkways in many of the streets in AD, also the weather is not particularly suitable for dog walking for much of the year unless you are up very early/ out late at night. It will be very difficult to sort out your accommodation in advance of getting here, it's very unlikely that a landlord would hold accommodation for you, you will also have to supply your visa copy and passport to the landlord for your rental agreement, pay your deposit, get electricity/water connections sorted and pay your advance rental. Where are you coming from? as lanark says you will struggle, and here you do not have much choice without using brokers, its not like the rest of the world, the renting here is so different. you will also have a lot of expenses up front. you will not be able to sort anything beforehand until you have visa, unless it goes into company name etc.

BB OP says she doesn't drive!! I think an apartment in Al Bateen is totally our of the question for that budget, you might be able to organise a studio in a shared villa, but there are a lot of downsides to that as well, to be honest the budget doesn't give you a lot of options if you don't drive, as it's an expensive side of town, you might look at the end of Hamdan or Electra street, some of the older buildings there might be in your price range but the pooch may well be an issue, especially as there wouldn't be many places to take him for a walk. Your best bet would be to visit the area and have a walk round and see if there are any to let signs up and get some mobile numbers oops missed that, but reem isnt that far from town center...! people dont like doggies here, so you will find it difficult. shared villas no go, illegal most of them. hamdan/electra yes, but you really havent seen what the older buildings are like!

Thank's for your replies, I have been looking on Dubizzle and that seems a good site and many studios will take my dog. Also I understand that Al Bateen Towers area is very expensive and am willing to travel out a bit. I have been told that Hamdan or electra street is good and I love older buildings, I am not looking for anything fancy as long as its either got a small garden or a balcolny, I can make it fancy myself. what about Al Nayan, that's supposed to be nice. I am coming from a country that really does not tolerate animals, so having not many places to take her for walks is not a problem, I have heard there are doggy parks! really have no idea as long as there are good streets to walk, she is happy. The problem is that when I come I am bringing my pooch so I really would like to set up an apartment/studio now. Thanks for your replies.

I have been offered a position in a company in The Al Bateen Towers,Bainuna Street and would like to know where and how to look for an apartment/studio in that area or nearby as I don't drive in the price range of 3500 - 5000 AED monthly and from the owner (no brokers) I also have a dog, is it easy to get an apartment with a dog. Thanks for any help. Karen edited by Karen2912 on 18/10/2012
