Hi all, i'm moving to al reef late August with my husband and two boys aged 6 and 4. We are coming from the UK. My husband has a job in Cambridge International School AD and so the kids will attend there too. I'm just trying to get a feel for what the area of al reef will be like, as its paid for accomodation so no choice on the matter of location. I hear mixed reviews. Some say al reef a great location, shops cafes and supportive friendly expat community feel ect.. Others say nothing there, only promises of cafes ect.. opening soon but this has been the case for many years and residents still waiting!! People also say it's too far out making it isolating. I'm not sure of the community we will be housed yet It's a three bed villa and fully furnished so im hoping it will be lovely. Can anyone advise? I hear theres three communiies meditaranian, arabian and commericail. Are some nicer than others? all the same? I wont work for the first year as i want to settle the boys and find my feet. I'm 33 and hopfully wont be too lonely when the kids and husband go to school.

Hi michaela, there are 4 villa villages in al reef Arabian, desert, meditterranian and contempory. There is also the apartment village that is called downtown. Each village has it's own pool, gym and most have parks. There is a shop in Arabian and desert and the large supermarket will open in August, eventually there will be coffee shops, dry cleaners etc and they could be any time (the building shells are complete). There is a takeaway restaurant in Arabian but all the malls closeby deliver etc. 10 minute drive gets you to waitrose, two new malls and yas island (where there are numerous bars and restaurants - 5 quid taxi ride! Al reef has a really good bus service which can get you into the city, beach, malls etc for 80p. There are a couple of streets that suffer from airport noise mainly in desert and Med, We live in Arabian and don't hear it much. Each villa has it's own car parking space (or 2 depending on the size of the villa) with plenty of additional spaces in the street. Been here 3 years now and wouldn't move back into the city. It will be a 10 min commute for your husband and if there isn't a school bus service there are plenty of people willing to share the school runs. If you have any further questions just ask :-)
