Can any of you lovely ladies ease my mind about my future babies passport? Im a ''full Brit passport" holder and my husband is Lebanese. We are due to have a baby next year. We are throwing around all ideas, deliver here or deliver in uk and pay. My main concern is.........if we have the baby here, do i have the right to send all the documents to Germany and obtain a Brit passport or will i be forced to go to the fathers embassy and be slapped with a Lebanese one, not that its a bad thing however it makes life a whole lot easier.! I also understand the rules that if my childrens children deliver outside the Uk they wont auntomatically get full brit status, this is also another consideration for us. I would prefer to have the baby here and come home rather than go back to my mums in uk, but i want to make life as easy as possible for my kids.
Thanks for any advice, i hope its clear what i mean, i think ive confused myself reading so much on the embassy website!!!

Hi Laura, Thank you so much for your reply, thats very clear and eased my mind. I think we have almost decided anyway to return home to the UK to deliver there as it seems alot easier gaining paperwork and passports, rather than go to every single government office in UAE and stamp every document 100 times before its accepted :O Interesting to read your comments about our childrens children(our Grandchildren) because the general feeling and info that we get from the Embassy here in UAE is that they wont get "automatically''(like busybee is saying)a british passport, but they do say they will never leave you ''homeless'' but you must apply for one instead and its a bit of a hassle???? Hopefully we wont have to find out now??? Thanks again, very kind of you xx

Hi jojobaaklini I used to work in the Nationality dept of the home office back home and made people british every day so hopefully can shed some light for you. Any child born out of the UK to a British mother will automatically be British themselves. All you have to do is to make sure that you register their birth at the embassy. Under British law, we are allowed dual nationality so depending on if the Lebanese do as well your child may also be entitiled to Lebanese nationality (that is something you would have to check with the lebenese authorities). As your child will be automatically British in the same way as if he/she was born in the UK then any children they have (either in the UK or abroad) will again be automatically british. I hope I've cleared it up a bit for you and it's not too confusing. I've added a link to the government website incase you need more clarification. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Passports/WhoiseligibleforaBritishpassport/DG_174146 but i was told by the british embassy here that my child who was born here (mother and father british as is the rest of family) in abu dhabi that any of his children would not automatically get a passort they would have to be born in the uk?
