Dear All
Have been living in Bahrain for the last 4.5 years and left there 4 weeks ago when all the trouble kicked off, so am currently in the UK staying temporarily at my parents with my 3 young children aged 5, 3 and 1. My husband has been 'sort of' offered a new position in AD but I am scared to make the move after what happened in Bahrain... my eldest child is enjoying his temporary school so should i stay in UK and risk not seeing my husband for vast amounts of time but give the kids stability and safety or should i try out AD? Would i be able to get my son and daughter into Year 1 and Nursery at a British Curriculum school?
My brain is addled! Any advice would be gratefully received, thank you.

As I see it the UAE is as stable as it can be, the people here ( as I understadn it) are well looked after and love their leaders, I just cant see any troubles heading to our shores!!!!! If conflict does occur with surrounding arab states, our embassies may assess and recommend we leave. I just cant see any real troubles ahead in AD, Dubai etc. I really wouldnt worry.

Well, I think the situation in the UAE is much more stable than in Bahrain. So I wouldn't be worried about safety, honestly. The local media has been reporting on the protests elsewhere, which I don't think would be happening so freely if the government here were concerned about instability. Now the kind of stability that comes from not moving about all the time, that's a different story. You have to figure out whether you and your kids and your husband would feel better having a stable home base, or being able to see each other every day. It's not an easy decision, but also, no one else can tell you which would be better for you. As for schools, the ages you're talking about, it's difficult to get admission in the better schools, but there is always a fair bit of movement, since such a big part of the population is expat. It's a gamble, IMHO. I hope this helps a little.
