Thanks Busybee (I notice we are communicating both here and in Dubai), we're hoping to get her a month extension in school as the mums residency (AD with Sharjah tenancy contract) has just been approved. It seems only logical to assume the girls' visa takes time, so hopefully they won't kick her out of school just yet. At least it's good to know that she might be able to get her tuition back (partly).
if you do have to leave and you have paid the whole school year in advance, you should be able to get back the next 2 terms etc from the school, they cannot take tutition fees for the whole year if you only stay for 1 term etc, of course some require a terms notice etc or you would pay pro rata etc. if you do not have a visa then you cannot stay in school its understanable for the school, they do usually give you like up to november time which is not far away hence why they are trying to hurry it up.. if you are stuck now because of this rule i dont think you will be able to sort it out very quickly at all. also being on an ad visa and living in sharjah etc will probably not be helping.

Thanks Busybee2. The problem is that it's all so confusing. The AD government website does mention these professions, but somewhere it mentions that for single mothers it doesn't matter what profession they have, as long as minimum salary is 4000 AED. Then on other websites the required minimum is 10.000AED.
She was told the salary was not a problem, but her profession was, and that these rules had recently been changed. Which is why I'm trying to find if someone knows a good PRO to give some advice.
i think unless her company can "sort it out" i think she is stuck, its always been those professions get exempted and some "companies" etc if she has been rejected etc i think she is going to struggle to overturn that view now. as far as i have known it does matter which profession you are and it does matter the minimum salary with and without accommodation etc. i would say the higher figure of 10k is the amount that is a minimum definately not 4k.

yes thats usually true only professionals such as teacher, engineer, doctor, lawyer etc can sponsor but it can be done by the company but it depends on what company etc. also there is a salary minimum and i think it is more than 5k a month.
I have an urgent question for a friend in trouble:
She is a divorced women with full custody of her child. They recently arrived, her residency permit (Abu Dhabi) has been approved. They live in Sharjah, the child goes to school there. My friend has a job working as a translator, earning 5k/month
Now the Abu Dhabi officials tell her she cannot sponsor her child, as she is not a doctor, engineer, nurse or teacher. I've been doing an online search, but I don't seem to be able to find any conclusive information on the subject. She's getting disparate, as the school is now threatening to release the kid, even though the school fees have been paid for the whole year.
Does anyone have an advice as to where to start, or does anyone know a good PRO in Abu Dhabi?
