Only at the corniche! Dr blots team are amazing. Ask to get on her team. The hospital is not a hotel but the NICU is incredible and the doctors saved my life and my daughters. State of the art NICU and doctors are fantastic. If straight forward then you will feel like you are a number but they have sooooo many babies!!!! If complications then you are in the best hands!

My next question - I have daman premier insurance card that covers me in private/public hospitals in the UAE - best of covers so money isn't an issue for us. Where would you deliver for a private experience if your insurance covered everything? Is there a private/speciality wing at the corniche that expats wtih excellent coverage could access as opposed to only the Locals/deplomats/royalty? no why should there be, if you go to the corniche expect a room with 2 patients.... you can be like everyone ...... in the past you could request a single room, but didnt know if you would get it why should just because your insurance is good that you can expect better treatment, if you want that then go to a private hospital..... corniche is a government hospital whether local or expat, its not a hotel. its the best maternity hospital in auh so thats what you are paying your money for, surely that should be paramount over luxury.... of course if you were royalty there is a vip section... but are you royalty?

Hi Ladies.... Kylah congrats on your twin babies!! I'm now into my 21st week and growing ever so much!! Still working full time and don't think could even make a twin support group as I'm currently streched btw 2 primary school aged kids, work and all that jazz... I've been doing two classes a week at Bodytree - pre natal yoga & pilates to take the edge of those aches and pains..They are evening classes which suit me. Ladies - thanks for all your advice re options and twin support groups in AUD. Kylah - I'm also looking at the option of also delivering at Al Noor Hospital with a Dr. Sally from the Walaa Clinic. I have my first visit with her at 28 weeks as she is very booked up. Dr. Sally came recommended from a friend so I can't say how she is yet. Dr. Tank cannot deliver anywhere so I've put this on hold. And I may also sign up with City Hospital Dubai as I'm originally a Dubai gal myself - but this is like my last option as I'm worried about bubbies and neonatal care. Warning - I had my first appt - same day I opened my file on 3rd of October at the Corniche and it was 6 hours later that finally everything got done & super slow. It's an administrative nightmare. I'm sure the birthing exp might be diff with the expat midwives but the ante natal appts are just too long for already hormonal preggos!! Abu Dhabi Mums has lots of different groups, nothing specifically for twins but sure there are some other groups you could be interested in.

For support you could contact: Twins, Triplets or More (TTOM) UAE - formerly known as Multiplied UAE [url=https://www.facebook.com/groups/418768598147121/'>link[/url'> https://www.facebook.com/groups/418768598147121/ edited by Casta on 12/10/2012

Hi Rouls, how are you getting on? I'm 13 weeks pregnant with twins too. I am currently seeing Dr. Marwan at Al Noor, Airport Road and have found him very good. I think I will stick with him for the moment but will also register with the Corniche (I'm not insured there) just in case and see how things go. I'm really interested joining a support group too, as these are my first babies and I don't have a clue what to do :) Did you manage to find one?

I went to corniche for my 2nd in 2011 and the antenatal wait time is insane - esp with doctors...I think you are wise going somewhere else for antenatal and deliver at corniche. My midwife at corniche was the best ever and she was present for entire delivery with doctors popping in and out felt very safe there and my husband allowed the whole time. I would say though that after care for me was pretty bad and they were completely understaffed esp for BF support so try and organise your own but it may be different with twins and tou may get more attention you would hope anyway :-) Big congratulations good luck :-). yep it was bad enough like 14 years ago.... and its much much much improved, if you can go to dr tank or someone private and then corniche for the birth best of both worlds then.

Thanks for all the advice. Busybee2 - you put me at ease :-) It seems to be the norm that public hospitals across the UAE are the ones with well equipped ICU for babies.... I'm more and more leaning towards seeing a private Obstetrician and signing up with the Corniche Abu Dhabi hospital for the delivery of my TWINS - it's crazy - still can't get my head around it!! I'm only 17 weeks, I'm very petite and already look massive! - all stomach though so I hope it stays that way!! At least I know I have options, but know that I'll be missing out on that lovely private hospital experience I had in Australia :-( With full time work and my children's schedules to juggle, I really don't want to be wasting time at the corniche for antenatal appts when it could be done within 30 minutes to an hour at a private clinic. edited by Rouls on 18/09/2012 dr tank is very good, she can be a bit "direct" but she knows her stuff (she is german or whatever) but she will be quicker at the appointments, you still usually have to wait a little but it will not be the same as the corniche or anywhere else, if a scan needs to be done etc she has the machines all there in her room so once you get into the consulting room you shouldnt need to move again, unlike the corniche, here for 1 thing, move to here for another thing, waiting waiting waiting etc. i can only go by my experience long long long time ago, and it was pretty dire then, but i know that its changed an awful lot! i was with the docs though as well, so i would always take much longer than any that went to the midwives etc. back in my day you really didnt have much choice it was old al noor or corniche but if anything was needed you were then taken by ambulance etc from al noor to the corniche with all the traffic issues. doing dr tank and corniche is the best way. corniche is very good once you get upstairs. also men are not always allowed in corniche, if you needed a scan etc then best to go at end of day, and they usually let you up etc. its ok upstairs though. it is a baby factory, unlike al noor etc where its not specialised etc.

hi Al wasl hospital has a good NICU and it is the only hospital which is only gyne and pediatrics, although it is a government hospital so you have to keep that in mind too.. but thats in dubai she is talking about abu dhabi, its a bit far to commute i think. lol

Thank you all for the congrats and for all that useful info. It's almost been 7 years since being pregnant and kind of freaking out I'm having twins. Maybe the support group will put me at ease - so I'm looking forward to those details Jackie re your friend running a twins support group :-) I have my first appt. booked at the corniche hospital on 3rd of October and they have already assigned me to the doctor team and not the midwives team - so hoping it all goes smooth and I'll feel right about everything. I'm certainly not looking forward to the long antenatal visits as I work full time and have my two kids schedules to work around. I'm also thinking about getting my antenatal visits done by private obstetrician like Dr. Tank and just delivering at the corniche. Is that advisable? Could anyone recommend any gyno/obst that are specialist with twins or have the expat approach to things? thanks the docs team is a bit of a pain, as you then have to sit and wait even longer around the place. i know when i had my one there, because i had medical issues with no1 i had to see the docs, this was like 13 years ago so "downstairs" has improved 400% since then, but you would go in just for normal visit and it would take 4 hours! as they then wanted to do a scan, then you see the doc, wait around for ever etc... so its best if you can do the midwives but of course that doesnt always apply for everyone. best place to be is the corniche though i wouldnt go anywhere else "just in case", they have been doing it for a very long time, and at least now you can get epidurals at least 24 hours before it stopped at like 8pm and that was it..... the best way to do it is to go and see dr tank she is excellent if you dont mind paying for the antenatal but then book into the hospital for the birth etc. that way you will be able to "schedule" it better, otherwise you can waste a lot of time in corniche, even if you try and go for the first appts of the day.

Hi, CONGRATS! you could also consider Al Rahba Hospital, they have a very good NICU, I delivered here in 2011 and had a very good experience, also government hospital, many private hospitals will now refer here over the corniche in case of complications as its not as busy as Corniche but has same standards of care. Corniche however, is the specialist hospital and especially with twins, I would recommend going there. They now have a women's health clinic in Al Bateen where you can register and do your ante natal checks and its a lot less hectic than going to the corniche itself, which is always busy and a 20 minute appointment will inevitably take you about 3 hours, the rooms aren't private and the administration can drive you to tears but I have yet to hear anyone complain about the competence of medical staff or standard of care. This is where I would go were I to have twins! I know quite a few people with twins and one of the mums was going to set up a group after the summer, I will find out whats happening with that and will update (might be a few days).

corniche, if babies need special care, they will then be rushed over there from other hospitals as they are not fully equipped the same as corniche. its been a while since i was there, (like 13.5 years ago) but in that time its improved a lot.... since a cattle market downstairs, but upstairs is very good. after all a lot of babies are born in this country, and most from there.

Hi, I'm new to this whole forum thing but lately have been reading a lot of threads regarding pregnancy and hospitals in Abu Dhabi. I have delivered twice in Australia, first time in a public hospital and second time in private. Couple of questions - 1. Corniche hospital appears to be the hospital of choice for delivering twins as it has one of the best fully equipped NCU. Is there any private hospitals in abu dhabi or dubai that could provide a more private service but have the facilities to care for sick babies? 2. I currently work full time in abu dhabi and have a lot of questions in relation to pregnancy and delivery in the UAE. Is the forum the place to shoot away with questions or would you recommend a twins support group for people pregnant with twins? I'm currently 16 weeks pregnant and want to get in early with registering with a hospital etc.
