Hi,
I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing the c25k in the mornings?
I work in Khalidiya and have to start work at 8:25 am. However since I reach the Khalidiya gardens around 7:50am, I was thinking why waste that half an hour and maybe go c25k instead...

I have done a bit of c25k before... it was a modified program, where instead of 3 days a week I would do 5 days a week taking the weekend off. I move onto each new phase of the run only when I am comfortable in the current phase I am in.

My goal, is to hopefully lose 2kg a month till I reach my ideal weight and then continue on with my workout runs even after to stay healthy.

If anyone is interested to join me please post here and we can coordinate. Maybe starting our first run next sunday (12th) morning? This way we can keep each other (or more) motivated and get healthy. :)

I think you are doing great smita :) I personally dont think I can jog as fast.. walking maybe yes, but not jogging. I hope your sugar levels are normal and you find the workouts easier as you progress through the days. :) I am now at 5km per day... again its the walk to the office via corniche. Its so much easier and fun as the whole walk is uninterrupted and except for the 2 crossing i take to get to the corniche from my home and the one crossing from the corniche to my office, the rest of the walk is scenic, by the sea, lots of other walkers with their dogs and otherwise, joggers and cyclists, a sweet lady feeding cats.... its lovely :) I am so hoping I can stick to this even when the weather becomes warmer/hotter in june... its so much easier than a workout regime as such, just need to leave to work about 30 mins early, which I am doing anyway if I needed to catch the bus :)

Way to go Sumi! As for me, I am afraid I have not progressed well- now able to jog at 7.5 kmph on treadmill for one min and walk at 7.2 for one min for 30 mins- alternating- but that has me soo tired and drained and weirdly, I havent yet found an increase in stamina so am planning to get my sugar levels etc tested..

thanks Smita :) hope you are able to do it on the treadmill and that you are progressing. my update: so far finished 33km walking over the last 11 days, at 3km every day. Have noticed a definite improvement in my speed from day 1. am considering moving onto 5km per day with a bit of jogging (c25k) in between. Probably from next sunday, I will start along the corniche which will give me that additional 2km required. Hope to hang in there and keep it up. edited by sumi on 27/02/2012

Hi Smita, thanks for your words of encouragement. :) and really wish we had been living closer together so that we could have helped each other in our fitness regime. Usually the c25k program is done 3 days a week for about 9 weeks. I modified it to 5 days a week but did not complete the 9 weeks due to various reasons. Since I live in the city, I chose to run on the pavement outside my building. I would run about 500m then turn around and run back and turn around and run again in the same 500m distance. This was a bit boring, however the first 3 weeks of the c25k program moves very fast as before you get comfortable/uncomfortable in a particular phase (walk/jog) you move on to the next phase and before you know it you are done. I did enjoy it however like I said couldnt keep up. I cant do this now, as I moved to the heart of the city and with the shops and people its just too uncomfortable for me. As to speed, I went with the speed comfortable for me, as I have never jogged in my life, so I didnt want to burn myself or dread my workout. The walk phase I would do in a speed slightly above normal but not too brisk. The jog pace, i would take short strides but quicker jog steps (not longer strides, as this would tire me out easily and I would not be able to complete that phase). Unfortunately I didnt map my speed in each phase... I suggest you go with what your body can handle... start slow and steady and work your way up. For instance, the week one program will take you 3 days to do. Do this in the most comfortable pace your body can handle and then on day 4, maybe you could do the same week 1 program at a slightly strenuous pace and see how you are able to manage it? You could maybe do this slightly strenuous phase for the next two days till you feel comfortable in it and then move to week 2 program. Remember to take days off inbetween, as your body/muscles need time to recover and heal. If you are going for 5 days at a stretch, then take the weekend 2 days off. I did try the c25k on a treadmil... it was a manual treadmill however, but I felt uncomfortable on the manual treadmill... a bit disoriented the minute I started to move so had to leave it. On an electric treadmill, I do not know if its easy to pre-configure your program speeds for that week? Maybe you can try to do a basic walk and see your speed and then a comfortable jog and see your speed. Then if its possible to pre configure the workout program, you can set it to those values? Hope I have been of some help, and good luck on the c25k. You can even post in this thread of your progress once you start so that it is easier :) take care edited by sumi on 14/02/2012

Hi Sumi, Good luck and way to go on starting your fitness program.. I would have loved to join you on the c25k run - unfortunately I live & work in KCA :( God knows I need to lose weight!! :) I have been following the c25k thread on the Dubai forum with interest and also wish I had a person to do the run with me for motivation . Just a question on the workout as you say you have done a modified version, ( I didn't get it fromthe links in the forum thread) When they say walk/jog /run- what speeds are they talking about on a treadmill as I plan on doing this on the treadmill. Thanks! Good luck once again!

since no one is able to join me, I changed my idea to walking from home to work instead. About 3km one way, 5 days a week. So I leave home (at electra) about 7:40 and reach my office in khalidiya about 8:20. Since the climate is absolutely wonderful in the morning this is really pleasant. :) My pace alternates between a brisk walk and normal walk. So if anyone would like to join me (in the near future) you can post here. In the meanwhile, I am going to post my progress here, so as to keep me motivated (and accountable) and hopefully may motivate someone (to eventually) to join me ;) edited by sumi on 13/02/2012
