Taking safety precautions while driving could make all the difference, especially when it comes to children. As part Dubai Police's efforts to keep the roads safe, they have recently announced an upcoming law that will make seat belts mandatory for all passengers.

This week, we’ve seen an example of behaviour that the police won’t let happen without consequences. A Land Cruiser was recently spotted on Umm Suqueim with a child sticking his head out of the sunroof and the police was alerted.

As a result, the driver, who was the father of the little boy, was given a fine for endangering his son’s life. Upon being confronted by the police, he reportedly explained that he had no idea that it was a dangerous act.

This incident had also led the police to discover that the car’s registration had expired and so the car was seized.

Road safety

A recent study by the Road Safety UAE of more than 1,000 UAE residents found that 34 per cent of drivers with children don’t have the appropriate child seats or booster cushions even though they need them.

The survey also showed how drivers have limited knowledge of the importance of back seat belts and therefore, many of them don’t ask passengers to wear them, even when they’re children.

Only 11 per cent of respondents said that they personally wear seat belts when they are passengers in the backseat of a car.

This shows how many parents fail to take appropriate safety measures to ensure safety for their children. They're also bad habits that get passed down to their little ones as they grow up.
