If you’re going out in Dubai on New Year's Eve, here’s all the information to help you get around the city.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced some road closures in an attempt to control the traffic on Saturday, December 31. At the same time, they’re trying to regulate the increase of commuters using public transport.
Road Closures
- Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard from 6pm to 8pm.
- The upper and lower decks of the Financial Center at 8pm.
- Al Murooj Rotana intersection leading to Burj Khalifa and Tunnel at 6pm
- Zabeel Intersection at 8pm
- Emirates Towers roundabout leading to Al Saada Road at 10pm.
- Al Asayel Road at 4pm (Open for public transport and VIP passage only).
- Al Sukook Road at 8pm.
Traffic Diversions
To reduce congestion on the Financial Centre Road, the RTA is diverting traffic to multiple directions, including Oud Metha Road, Al Asayel Road, Zabeel bridges, Al Saada Road and internal roads at the Business Bay area to access Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.
They will also be monitoring the light signals on the Financial Centre Road and Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

Parking
There will be 17,000 car parking spots at Emaar District, consisting of the Dubai Mall parking lots and the surrounding areas. There will also be 5,000 parking spots outside the events area.
The RTA is also arranging alternative parking spots, such as 2,000 spots at the Al Wasl Club, 1,500 in Musalla at the Trade Centre, 500 at the DRFA in Jafiliya and 1,000 at Zabeel Park.
And not to worry, you won’t have to walk much if you park in these areas as there will be shuttle buses to take you to the events area.
Metros
The RTA expects around 900,000 people to take the Dubai Metro on NYE and around 480,000 commuters the following day on Sunday, January 1. The metros are scheduled to pass between every 2 minutes to 8 minutes.
Burj Khalifa metro station will be closed from 10pm to 6am the following day.
Buses
The RTA is expecting about 60,000 commuters to use public buses on New Year’s Eve, with most of it condensed around the Burj Khalifa area. 22,000 of those are expected to be served from 12:30 am to 4 am.
The bus arrivals at the Burj Khalifa are supposed to be expedited and there will be directional signs to help guide people to the pick-up and drop-off points on Abraj Road.
There will be a total of 160 buses will be operating as follows:
- 10 buses on Sheikh Zayed Road in the Abu Dhabi direction. Pick-up points: Burj Khalifa metro station and Noor Bank metro station.
- 40 buses on the Sheikh Zayed Road service road to Al Wasl Club, Zabeel Park, Al Jafiliya and Deira City Centre parking spots.
- 50 buses on Al Saada Road to the events area, the Trade Centre and Al Wasl Club parking areas.
- 20 buses from the Business Bay metro station to the Al Wasl Club parking.
- 20 buses at pick-up and drop-off points along Al Abraj Road through Al Asayel Road and Al Wasl Club parking areas.
- 20 buses from the sand area near Dubai Water Canal to Deira City Center through Umm Amara Road, Sheikh Zayed Road, Meydan Road and Sheikh Rashid Road.

Taxis
The RTA is expecting about 36,450 people to be served by taxis during the celebrations. You can find designated taxi areas at Al Wasl Club, Musalla (Mankhool), Jafiliya, Zabeel Park and Al Asayel.
Water Canal Boats
- All boats from the Jumeirah Road to Ras Al Khor sectors will be stopped from 10pm to 6am the following day.
- Footbridges, lifts and the Walk on the Sheikh Zayed Bridge above the Water Canal will also be closed.
