So it looks like my maid has absconded, I will report tomorrow when DNRD open. She was due to leave me at the end of the month.

I am just after any advice regarding what I should/should not do anything I should be aware of.

She has not taken all of her stuff, she has taken one of my suitcases. There is a large metal box full of her stuff (and mine) that was due to be sent back to Sri Lanka. What do I do with it?

Flying to philipines.....She s gone missing now....i m going down to her brothers work place to try and contact her. We have cancelled and banned her for 12 months. But we still have her passport so hopefully she turns up and we can get her on a flight. If not she obsconded. I dont understand y they cant keep them in a cell until a flight is sorted would be alot easier. But they dont do that in ABU dhabi. Will be handing in her passport if we cant find her. But she wont be able to get sponsered here :@ The worst day ever and im def not getting a live in helper Ever again. IF you find her, then tell her that if she leaves the house again you will call the police.

we r having a problem dh is cancelling our maids visa now, but we cant put her on a flight all booked up...They told my dh even though we have cancelled her visa we are reponsible till she leaves the country or finds a new job or gets on a flight next week ...which then we can ban her....so totally confused im meant to lock her up so she doesnt run away .....:@ glad yours is all sorted Shazman

VP her visa is cancelled, she is no longer our responsibility if caught working for anybody else they will have to pay the fine. Been through her room, found some toys, and a pair of my socks!!! and the sim card for the phone. Thanks for you advice yesterday.

That was very painless, she has now been reported as an absconder and is no longer our responsibility. Very nice lady at immigration who was very helpful and quite sympathetic but did say some of the horror stories she hears I am lucky that she has just run away and not left behind a new born child. She said it does happen. Anyway I do believe she has family (cousin) in Arabian Ranches so if a new maid arrives to stay with you or looking for a job, her name is Sryiani from Sri Lanka, she is wanted by immigration. If you need more details let me know. Please do not get in trouble by using this lady.well done. Is her visa cancelled etc? are you nothing to do with her now? nice job

Firstly, go through all of her stuff with a fine tooth comb. Don't pay for the ticket as you will have to pay ticket money to immigration. Make sure that nothing of value is missing from your home. Contact any of her friends and let them know that she is not in trouble, you just want to give her the bonus you were planning for her departure (anything to make her come back)....if she returns, then take her straight to immigration holding cell. Immigration will ask you where she was, and why she was out alone. Be ready. really? We had an absconder (absconded day before flight home after getting fired). We just had to show the plane ticked (which was paid for) and they never asked a thing about why she was out alone or anything like that.I mean that if you tell immigration she went off for the weekend, then did not return, they will ask you why she was away from the premises. If she just left then it is different. That is why I said be ready. Just say she left.

Thank you VP. We have already bought the ticket. I will go through the stuff tomorrow, do I just bag it all up?? I have found toys of my daughter in her box and also a lot of cleaning products that happen to be the same brands as i buy, do I remove these things? I have left them there for now as I was not sure what to do. Cant find anything of value missing. I have contacted the only friend of hers I know, who informs me they have fallen out. Is immigration bad?? I cant make anybody stay in of their day off.

Firstly she told me she had been offered a job in Sri Lanka so by mutual agreement decided to let her go early end of contract is in June. No point in having somebody here who is unhappy. Then she told me she has enough money for a house and wants to go soonest. I asked her when she would like to go, she said end of the month will be fine.

I am pretty sure she has, yesterday was her day off she should have been in to work this morning. We booked her ticket on Thursday to make sure the name was correct for flight ticket we took her passport to travel agent. We still have it. Her computer is gone, no handbag in room, left her keys. Wardrobes are virtually empty apart from a few bits and what looks like dirty washing. A suitcase of mine has gone. Tried to phone her, get a message saying phone is turned off.
