camera repairs?

Feeling very blue because my beloved camera (Pratika) has gone on the blink. And while I was enjoying a break in Fujairah, too, so no photos :-(
It's a lens error - the lens got stuck halfway in/out and although my camera switches on and I get a blurry view on the screen, it quickly closes down to an error message, and the power goes off (but lens stays stuck).
I took it in passing to Minutes and the chap says I have no chance of finding a camera repair person anywhere here.
A chap in Al Falak says I have to send it to the manufactoruer service centre, and there isn't one in the UAE.
Cheaper to buy a new one (which I can't really afford)?
