the army taking over might be the only way forwards now with the hope they will allow democracy to take over. It's incredible that he is still there after announcing that all people's demands will be met....all he did was pass some of his powers to a man whose hands are covered in blood ( his henchman)

Some of the commentators back here are saying there might be and a military takeover would be legitimised by the forces saying they are listening to the will of the people. I sure hope they don't ask the military to fire on the protestors as most of the military is made up of maintstream Eqyptians isn't it (due to national service)? That would be like asking them to fire on their friends and neighbours. I have to say I am not at all comforted by the fact that he has turned over part of his powers to Suleiman. That guy sounds even more evil to me! They were interviewing a British journalist on the ABC today who had been arrested by Suleiman's police after just entering the country. He didn't get much further than teh airport zone. They treated him all right, but the things he said he overheard about how the Egyptians were being brutalised made my hair stand on end.

I'm not sure, I am reading live updates on our news broadcast and it looks like he's still being stubborn: 8.08am Mr. Mubarak, who said that he would not "listen to diktats coming from abroad," has also refused to lift the emergency law which has been in effect since 1981. He said he will clear the way for ending the state of emergency once stability and security is restored. 8.04am President Mubarak has handed over some power to the Vice President. 8.01am The crowd is growing louder and angrier as his speech continues. They chant "get out, get out" and wave their shoes at the screen showing the president. 7.55am President Mubarak will form a committee to study and modify the constitution. The modifications will cover presidential term limits and how elections are run. It seems he is declaring he will stay till September whe nteh election is held. But until then has handed some of his powers to Omar Suleiman. B*gger, and I have to get the kids to school so I can't see and see what is happenning next.
