GULP

In line with the decision of the Supreme Energy Council in Dubai to adjust the electricity and water tariff for all DEWA customers which is applied from 1st January 2011. A fuel surcharge is added for electricity & water consumption from this date.

Fuel surcharge in your monthly electricity & water bill will vary based on the rate of increase or decrease of the actual fuel cost supplied to DEWA generation plants.

Fuel Surcharge will be shown separately in your monthly bill and will be charged by Fils/kWh for electricity and Fils/IG for water.

The new tariff intended to promote efficient consumption of electricity and water at a time it is increasingly needed, equally in the conservation and preservation of our precious resources. Then you'll need to pop down to the big DEWA office near Wafi with copy of your current lease. Has to be done in person. Doesn't take long. We did it a few months back.

It's 5% of your yearly rent divided into 12 equal instalments. Check your bill and make sure you're paying the correct housing fee, if not, take a copy of your lease to the DEWA office near Wafi and they will re-adjust it and credit you if you've been paying too much.

Think locals pay DEWA but only for leccy and not for water, and am not sure if they pay housing fees or not - am thinking that this was going to be introduced for locals but not sure if it has been as yet.

Summer is going to be VERY expensive!! I'm sure DEWA has a countdown calendar to summer as their profits are going to skyrocket with all these added 'fees'!

Actually it's a % of each of your water AND Electric consumption and both E & W have risen in price per unit. Just got my DEWA bill and although consumption was less than last month for both E & W the bill is higher. And i have no AC on presently!! Its never ending with DEWA, my once relatively affordable bills went through the roof when they introduced the housing tax so now your saying they are going to go even more through the roof???? My monthly bill here would do me half a year in my home country!!!
