I have an a potential absconded maid and not sure what to do about it. I posted on the maids thread but I need the advice of all the usual posters who have "been there. done that" with this situation but they are probably not going to the maids section. Can you post on here about maids or do the mods move it straight to the other section?

Our Sri Lankan maid called me last Tuesday in tears and said her brother-in-law had been killed in a bike accident in Colombo and she needed to go home. I arrived home, she was very upset, so I gave her some money for a ticket - one way as I could not buy it online and she had to get it at the airport and didn't know which day she would be returning. I put her on a plane that night and she said she would be back in a week (today). So, we have heard nothing, nada, zilch since she left. She did communicate with her friend here on Friday, who called me and said she was ok and coming back on Tuesday or Wednesday. Now her friend has heard nothing as well since then. Her Sri Lankan and Dubai mobiles are switched off. All her things are still in her room. Do you think she had disappeared or will just arrive tonight or tomorrow - any experience in these matters? She is on my husband's visa - if she has done a runner - what are the implications. BTW, she owes me money that I advanced her! Anon - not sure about where she is - my husband's driver took her to the airport to help her out. Whether she got on the plane - not sure. Freckles - hope you can help!
