Hey, we are moving over to Dubai early next year and need some help with education, my daughter is 3 turning 4 in aug, she is in pre school in U.K. And meant to start reception sep 17, is FS1 the same as reception in the U.K. Does anyone no and is it the same age as she's the youngest over here but have been told not to hold her back a year? Also any recommendations of good schools and pre schools attached to school?
Many thanks everyone

Hi Lucinda, good luck with your move to Dubai. Re education for your daughter, I think FS2 is the equivalent of Reception, but not entirely sure now, however I think you may be in for a bit of stress regarding getting her a place.....I would suggest you start emailing the schools asap as places are quite hard to come by. The usual schools that are recommended are JESS, DESS, JEBIL ALI PRIMARY SCHOOL, JPS, KINGS, all of which (I think), have secondary schools which they feed in to. I know you may think that is years away, but time flies and secondary school places are even more difficult to come by. There are a lot of new schools around now and all seem to be ok, the ones above are the well established schools here in Dubai. The other main criteria I would suggest, is trying to find a school local to where you live...driving can be a huge nightmare here and with schools starting so early, you probably do not want to be on the roads for too long. As an example my daughter went to a school that was too far away for me to get her there and her siblings to their school on time, the bus collected her at 5.45am each day....obviously that didn't last long! The KHDA which is the governing body of schools here publish reports on the schools, so check out their web site and work out where your location is with regard to schools...finally if staying long term, check out if the secondary school attached goes down the IB or A Level route and see which you prefer, far away I know....but worth planning for! Good luck.
