Thank you both! I tried smearing it on his paw in butter and then in cheese but he just left it there lol. AdviceSeeker I guessed the gagging was from the taste but I'm mostly worried that he's not getting his full dose... when I wipe away the foam it's yellow (the colour of the medicine) so he must be foaming it all up :o( I'll give the vet a call. Thanks again!
Yes my kitten was foaming the same way, but vet said it was fine to me so hopefully its the same for your kitty! please update to let us know how you get on!

My cat has to take a daily dose of liquid antibiotics for the next two months. I've watched videos and read up on how to give him the meds using a syringe, and did a trial run with some tuna juice which was fine. But whenever I give the med he starts foaming and gagging, even though I'm putting it in at the side and far back. Hes obviously not getting the full dose. I've tried hiding it in all manners of food but he won't go near it, even if I don't feed him for hours beforehand. I'm at a loss. It's a small dose so can't get it in pill form. Any advice?
The foaming and gagging is quite a normal reaction to the taste of the medicine, well thats what the vet told me when I brought a stray kitten which needed medicine and she started foaming and gagging and I panicked a bit... The vet was perfectly calm and said its normal, so no need to worry... just keep giving the medicine as you have been and its fine. If you want to double check you could call your vet and ask them...
Sometimes if i have to give a tablet or liquid medicine, i'll get a teaspoon and mash it to a fine powder then mix it into a tiny bit of butter, then either smear it around her mouth (quickly!) or smear it on her paw. Cats hate anything on their fur, be it nice tasting or horrible so inevitable they will lick it off until their fur is clean. Never fails!!!
