We've been invited to a christening... what is an appropriate gift and where would be the best place to buy it?

I am really clueless in this regard!

Hallmark stores definitely have a small section of christening gifts (I think they had some "Precious Moments" products, photo frames/albums, etc). And PBK in MCC is open last I saw. Also, I think KKS is totally on point...whatever you can give for the child's special occasion is going to be appreciated. This is truly one of those times when "it's the thought that counts" comes in to play ;).

Thanks everyone :) You've given me some brilliant ideas. I'll look in Tiffany's but I do think that will be outwith my budget, but no harm in looking hey? I think I'll also look in Pottery Barn Kids to see what photo frames they have or personalized goodies. Is Pottery Barn Kids open in MOE or Dubai Mall?

for the lower end of the budget Hallmark or a good card shop may have Christening gifts such as a silver photo frame or money box etc..

You can buy just about anything for a christening gift. Are you religous? If not, a nice book is always a welcome gift, no child can have too many books. A nice outfit is always a suitable gift. Fischer price make a nice Nativity set that I think is a lovely gift for a Christian child. If you are a Christian, a book on bible stories, a cross on a chain or bracelet if it is a girl etc.

It might differ between different types of Christians. For example, DH's side doesn't give gifts (except the godparents), they give $$$. But from what I've experienced at Catholic baptisms, gifts range from silver jewellery (most certainly a cross, ear rings, charm bracelet) to personalized blankets/picture frames or a religious icon related to the patron saint of whatever church they are being baptized in.

Depends on your budget. As Izzy said, Tiffany has some lovely stuff. Another option which I thought was quite unique was to buy stocks in something :) (possibly not DXB stocks though :D)
