yes, she is too small, so you will have to find a way to keep her in, do a cat run for her, put a collar on the tree and make sure she cannot get out of the yard any other way :). when she gets to 3lbs then you can get her done :) Vets really need to tell their clients why they cannot spay or neuter at a young age and that they should weigh at least 3lbs...just so there is not any confusion :)

Hi Sue, Thanks so much for your replies... I go to ABVC, and my little kitty is only about a kilo if that so she's definitely too small to be spayed :( hopefully she'll be ready soon though, I'd hate for her to escape and end up being a pregnant street cat

May I ask who your vet is? Because she is home with you 4 months is fine, IF she weighs more than 1.4kg (or 3lbs). There have been advancements in Anesthesia to make it possible and safe to do a 4 month kitten IF they weigh more We will do 4 months as studies have shown that it is not harmful as was previously thought because of the advancement in vet medicine. I would call around to other vets as I find a few vets here are not quite as willing to embrace new thoughts. As for the collar on the tree, if you do it as a large upside down cone, with the big flare high enough on the tree so you other cat cannot jump over it should work for the little one as they will not be able to get around it :)

I just called my vet, they said they definitely can't spay a kitten under 6 months old, is there a reason for this?

Thanks so much SueB!!! The collar idea for the trees is fab, will get that sorted, and until they're up she's back to her room! She's not spayed yet as my vet said he'd prefer if we waited until 6 months, but I'm pretty sure she'll be fine to do it now, so will book her in. Thanks again

You might have to block the way your other cat gets out. she is pretty young to be out at 4 months. Is she spayed yet? You could keep her in the house for now or do a kitty run for her so she can get outside but kept safe. If it is a tree they climb you can put a collar on the tree they cannot get by., So, until you figure it out, keep her inside :)....or block the way they both get out.

Hi, I am an experienced animal owner, however I found a stray kitten a few months back who stole our hearts and so decided to keep her.... she's been living happily in our house, firstly confined to our spare bathroom (with toys and bed and litter etc), however we let her out in the house with our other animals whilst we were home, then eventually she's been fine with them so she was allowed to stay out with the other animals all day... we've only just been having this problem, and now I'm getting really worried as she's not very "Street wise" but she's learned how to climb out of our back garden, now my other cat who is pretty cleaver does this all the time, but he knows how to get back over the wall, as well las how to find his way to the front door to be let in again, unfortunately little kitty doesn't, so at first she was jumping into my neighbors garden which was an issue in itself as my neighbor would just open their front door and let her run out and she was found a few times hiding under my neighbors car, Then last night she had jumped into my neighbors garden (they weren't home) and was stuck there meowing, so I had to jump over the wall, catch her and then get a ladder to climb back over, but I just got home tonight and what I feared has happened, she's jumped over the back wall which is backing right onto the main road :( as soon as I got in I was calling for her and luckily saw her shadow sniffing around the back gate, so I quickly opened the door and let her in. I'm really worried that she's going to get hit by a car, as I'm literally on the road, there's only a small path between my back wall and the road, and I don't really know what to do to stop her besides locking her in a room for the rest of her life (she's about 4 months old atm)... Sorry for the long post, its just she's the sweetest little thing, so I would really appreciate any advice to help keep this girl safe
