School place?

Was there a baby boom 5 years ago? it feels like it.....I'm being to lose hope of finding a school place for DD either to start at Easter in FS2 or next sept in Yr1, so if anyone has any thoughts on where I can try I'm open to ideas. Budget is around 40K for Year 1, which cuts out the most expensive ones, As to location, ideally easy to get to from the Ranches.

TIA

Sunfairy: Mrs Laughan might be right - keep phoning every couple of weeks. You never know...squeaky wheel and all that... Exactly :) I called nearly every week ...for 6 months ... and finally they gave up ...and offered us a place. (No wonder I insisted so much - I had the tiny one at home for 6 months, missing his grandparents and waiting for his (half)siblings to join us here. Poor thingy.) Don't give up! Children are coming and leaving all the time. We just informed the school that he won't need his British C. Y5 spot in Sept., as we will be moving home this summer. So, someone, somewhere, is always moving up the waiting list. Everyday. Good luck.

JBS, it is IB though Yeah, thanks Sophia, that is an option but at 65,00AED per child ($18,000) it's $10,000 per kid more than our current school. We don't know what our package is yet so not sure if we would end up out of pocket. I actually wrote to DH's HR person tonight asking for some guidance on how school fees are catered for - whether individually paid in total or part of a lump sum payment. If we don't get some clarity soon, I am afraid we may either miss opportunities or be out of pocket by a considerable sum. Sorry, seem to have hijacked the thread. Gems Wellington primary, or raffles always seem to have spots. The wait list is always a debacle, people are always on multiple. Oh I heard that repton may not be full....... If you want a spot now, just pick your top schools and keep on phoning the registrar, though if you have been awhile is there an issue over getting a place now? You don't need a transfer certain for that age........

and yet so many schools are putting big adverts in 7 days for their open days (admittedly some are for sixth form). I,m surprised they want to spend the money on it if they are so full.

I too feel your pain! We are supposed to be moving to Dubai from Australia in late March to start the kids up in Term 3 in FS2 and G3 or 4. I have not been able to find them a place anywhere either and I am starting to get nervous. Now I've just been told there is no way any British Curriculum school would take them before the end of the school year becasue they are presently in an Australian Curriculum school!!! What's left???? Only IB schools? I can't put them in an American Curriculum school as they won't assimilate back into Australia when we come home! The curriculum is too different. {:-(

I applied in 3 schools, as far back as 2009 jan and still got negative response for FS2 for september 2011!!! This is unreal!! Either people are holding onto positions in more than one school till the last moment or these people are just not organised enough? Can this be real? 2-1/2 yrs of waiting and still no seats! Ive run out too sunfairy. 2 other schools said they had seats available ( on the phone) but when i went there personally they said they were full!! I wonder sometimes if its got anything to do with race!? My DD will be 5 in decmber and is in the last yr at her kindergarten school so i really need to have her at FS2 somewhere! Or just stay home? is that an option? edited by gogi on 07/02/2011
