I understand British residents can apply online and pay $14. Does the fact that we are UAE residents complicate anything. Has anyone been recently? perhaps I should call the USA embassy.Anyone have the number?

It is no problem. We did it recently for my daughter. Not really a visa since UK part of visa waiver programme but an authorisation to travel. It is called an ESTA. If you search you will find US govt site to apply on-line. We got confirmation immediately when we applied although it can take a day or two to come through. Very easy as velcroqueen has said.

hi, you apply for the visa online. takes only a few minutes and you get a response with a reference number quickly to. carry a printed version with you. i went recently to new york. live here. british passport. no problems. good luck and enjoy!
