Walking kids to school in May-June?

We are considering moving to walking distance (less than 1k) of my daughter's school/son's nursery. Both DH and I work, so maid would have to do pick up around 2 for son's nursery and 2.30 for daughters school (both under 6). Is this doable in May/June??? Although it's not a long distance (daughter can ride her bike or ride on buggy board with son in the buggy), I'm concerned that kids will not be able to take the heat.

Do you have your kids out in the heat of the day as it approaches summer??

TIA

Thanks everyone! We have done May-June here before but with this cool weather I can't remember how hot it got... Kids won't be walking - they'll be in buggy + buggy board but now I'm thinking of poor maid! I remember it not getting humid til July, so I'm envisioning HOT but not sticky... or have I forgotten about that too? :-/ It's like forgetting labour pains! Maybe I'll take your advice Sticky Wicket and find a carpool solution in June... TVM

My friend did it for more than two years and nothing happened to neither the children nor her, as Sticky Wicket advised, make sure they wear hats and the maids carries plenty of water.

In this case, it is probably better for the kids to take the bus.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't like to arrive at school soaked in sweat! But the maid is picking up.

They will live if they have to walk less than a KM. Just make sure the maid takes, Hats and some cold water with her to collect them.

It is not advisable during the heat.

We do it through May but car in June, 5-10 minutes each way. Parking is a nightmare and you can end up walking almost as far to the car.

No, absolutely not. It would be too hot for your little ones to walk a kilometre in the heat and very brutal for your maid to walk two kilometres (there and back) each day. A taxi for the short journey would only be a few dhirams. Could you find another school parent in your neighbourhood to car pool with?

Depends on the year, but no, I wouldn't plan on it. The heat is brutal.
