What happens to the UAE residence permit page when you get a new British passport?

DS's passport is due for renewal in a few months but I'm wondering what happens to the residence permit page which is valid until June 2012.
I tried calling the British Embassy here but after 3 minutes of recorded messages said they don't accept passport related queries (i know we have to send it off to Dusseldorf)
Tried emailing them but it said to send another one as a second query which will take another 5 days to reply.
Hope some of u ladies might have the answer!
