Hubby and I are planning a trip to Greece. Anyone been?? We need to book a hotel but not sure where to stay. Any suggestions? Also, anyone have any suggestions of things to do while there?

I went in June 09 - combined Athens with touring the islands (Mykonos, Paros, Santorini and Ios). Really liked Athens as was feeling the need for a dose of culture, but if you have time then would highly recommend some island hopping too. We stayed in two areas in Athens - Plaka and Monastiraki, both of which really well located for the main sites like the Acropolis. The hotel in Monastiraki was great - had a rooftop bar with a stunning view of the Acropolis, but fair bit of traffic noise. Can't remember the name but think I used Tripadvisor - and find that you never go too far wrong! Or if you're looking for something a bit different, a friend of mine has recommended i-escape, they handpick boutique or eco friendly hotels and have 6 choices for Athens. We didn't manage to get there as on a tight schedule, but I've heard that The Temple of Poseidon at Sounion is a good excursion to do - about an hour from Athens I think. <em>edited by nonny mouse on 13/02/2011</em>
