Its no wonder that the parents of the four year old girl who was raped went home to see a doctor and have the problem verified in their own country/city/ language. I cannot blame the father for being reluctant to bring this case to the courts. Truth is that any rape accusation here is held to a very strange and very difficult to navigate set of evidentiary standards. If a confession is not obtained, then the defense will rely on impugning the victim. The root of the problem lies with a fundamental notion that a woman or even a small girl can 'provoke' a rapist. Its an assumption that needs to change if this country wants to deal with these crimes effectively and in a way that protects victims. edited by Faifunghi on 20/01/2011 well then, you may need to change the religion in the country.
