Some I would trust others I would not. Do you have any local friends who would accompany you? Always tell them you reside in the UAE and you were given their name on recommendation. Switching stones does happen but it is usually the naive tourists they will target rather than a resident or local person.

I would trust the jewelleries here. Anyway, they will make a paper to say they have your ring, with a rock of xx carats, etc... so should be ok. Now, the only time I had to give back my ring was to the same jewellery, so....

Would like some of your experienced opinions.... The OH and myself need to get wedding bands in the near future. My engagement ring basket is shaped so I need a band custom made. I have been into a few jewelry shops in the malls and they all want my engagement ring for a day or 2 to make a mold blah blah.... so they can match my wedding band. i am lucky enough to have a fat rock on my finger so do I trust the jewelers? My gut instinct is no..... or am I being OTT? Does anyone have a trusted jeweler they use?
