The Dubai Metro stations will see two expansions to its current railway system by 2030 and 2040.

Exciting news! The Executive Council of Dubai revealed new plans confirming that the emirate's Metro stations will increase to 140 by the year 2040.

The Dubai Metro line currently has 64 stations operating across the Green and Red lines, with connections to the Tram public transport system. The ambitious expansion aims to double the number of Dubai Metro stations within the next two decades.

First, with 96 stations in total by 2030, followed by the Dubai Metro having 140 stations covering over 228 square kilometres by 2040.

According to the official social media announcement from the Dubai Media Office, the metro development plan aims to develop the areas surrounding Dubai Metro stations, increase the share of public transport to 45%, and help reduce carbon emissions.

The Dubai Metro expansion is expected to help boost populations around the stations, and add more residential and commercial buildings, offices, and service spaces nearby.

Where will the new Dubai Metro stations be located?

At the time of publishing, there has been no official confirmation from Dubai officials on where the new Metro stations will be.

The upcoming 30km Dubai Metro Blue Line is currently a work in progress, where more than half of its route will be running underground and the rest above ground .
