Emirates ID Can Now Be Used as an Insurance Card

The Emirates ID has facilitated the lives of thousands of UAE residents as it fast-tracked the process of going through immigration gates at the airport.

Now, many of these residents can now also use their Emirates ID to obtain healthcare services in the country.

Oman Insurance Company, one of the largest insurance providers in the country, confirmed that it’s now possible for their costumers to get treatment, a check-up or pick up medication from the pharmacy simply by presenting their Emirates ID. It will be sufficient proof to use direct billing for the medical services provided.

Previously, patients were required to show their insurance card before being looked after. This move supports the government’s efforts to implement smart services.

More companies to follow suit

It’s expected that more residents will be able to obtain this service as well. More insurance providers, such as Daman, are said to have already been doing pilot tests for a similar service.

The implementation of the Emirates ID with Daman customers will start in April and it’s expected to be complete by the end of 2017.

The UAE government has been putting in efforts to integrate many services within the Emirates ID. Aside from preventing fraud and identity theft, the ID also offers several benefits, including:

Immigration access: Skip the long queues at the airport and use the e-gate with your Emirates ID

ATM use: If you've forgotten you debit card, you can simply use your Emirates ID instead

Pay for petrol: If you happen to fuel up at the self-service ADNOC SMART at ADNOC petrol stations, you can use your Emirates ID to pay.

Credit check: Authorised individuals at banks are able to use your Emirates ID to obtain your bank history.  

E-Services: The ID can be used with many secure e-services.
