It is unclear whether the animal spotted is a wolf

The Municipality of Fujairah took to social media to calm the residents in Fujairah who were anxious about a circulating social media post of a wolf in the road.

A picture of an alleged sighting of a wolf in the streets of Al Bithnah village in Dubai has caused the post to gain popularity on social media.

However, due to the nature of the picture – it is unclear whether the animal in the picture is an actual wolf or a dog.

The municipality issued a statement via Facebook, saying:

“The Municipality of Fujairah denies the sighting of a wolf in the Bithnah village. We urge residents to contact authorities to ensure they are obtaining reliable information on the rumour.”

The circulating picture with the corresponding caption stating that the “Fujairah Municipality is looking for a wolf in the Bithnah village and that residents should stay away from the animal if spotted in the area as they haven’t confirmed yet if it is a wolf or a dog” has turned out to be fake news on social media.

Residents in the UAE are advised against the sharing of fake news online because it can have serious repercussions and even hefty fines.
