New Bus Route Connects Dubai and Abu Dhabi

Offering major convenience to residents living in the industrial areas of Mussafah, commuters to Dubai no longer have to head to Abu Dhabi central bus station

The new bus route, number E102, was launched to connect passengers living in the suburban area of Mussafah, Abu Dhabi to Ibn Battuta in Dubai. The route travels to Dubai from the Abu Dhabi International Airport, and to Abu Dhabi via Ibn battuta.

Integrated Transport Centre's (ITC) Director of Operation for the Public Transport Sector, Ateeq Mohammed Al Mazrouei, said that the inclusion of the major airport in the Mussafah Shabiya bus station to the Ibn Battuta bus station route is in line with "larger transport connectivity plans" for 2020.

The route was launched in cooperation between the ITC, Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi, and the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Al Mazrouei added that the new bus was also introduced with consideration of the upcoming Expo 2020, to ease transport flow between the two emirates.

Bus service runs on a frequency of one hour. With the new bus route, there are now two public bus routes to Dubai from Abu Dhabi.

One will stop at Ibn Battuta and the other will go to Al Ghubaiba bus station.

"Even the frequency of services on routes will change as per demand. Instead of an hourly service, it may be brought down to 30 minutes," he added.

E102 bus route

  • Mussafah Shabiya Bus Station
  • Mussafah Park
  • Al Najah Private School
  • Al Ain University of Science and Technology
  • Abu Dhabi International Airport Terminal 1 and 3
  • Ibn Battuta Metro Station

More bus routes to Expo 2020 in the works

Al Mazrouei mentioned that there are plans to increase public transport from Dubai and Abu Dhabi to the Expo site by adding newer bus routes from Madinat Zayed, Marina Mall, and via Abu Dhabi International Airport to the Expo 2020 site.

A new bus service was launched connecting Abu Dhabi and Ajman earlier this month, as part of the public transport expansion plans.

"There is no direct bus from here to Fujairah. But there is a service from Dubai to Fujairah. So anyone from Abu Dhabi who wishes to reach Fujairah can take a bus to Dubai and travel from there. But may be in the future, we will have a direct bus to Fujairah. We are working with the RTA for the benefit of all the emirates."
