In a world where everyone is so plugged in to their phones, computers and TVs, it's not often many of us actually think about the legal repercussions of our activity online. 

Unlike us, content piracy and illegal streaming and downloading is an everyday challenge for Sophie Moloney, who is OSN's Chief Legal Officer. 

Now, we've teamed up with OSN to give you EWers the chance to hear Sophie's unique perspective and insights on the challenges, risks and dangers of content piracy in the UAE. This session will also discuss, over a free, delicious breakfast, OSN services and will delve deeper into the world of content protection and illegal streaming.

Sophie Moloney OSN Chief Legal OfficerWho is Sophie Moloney?

Sophie Moloney is OSN’s Chief Legal Officer and Head of Corporate Affairs with further responsibility for Content Protection and CSR initiatives. As CLO she is the senior executive responsible for all legal, compliance, regulatory affairs and company secretarial matters for the leading pay television network in the Middle East and Africa.

Prior to joining OSN, Sophie was a commercial lawyer for the UK’s premier pay-TV company, Sky (UK) supporting the Technology Procurement and Content and Copyright teams.  Sophie has been in the UAE since 2011 (seconded from Sky,) first as Legal Director to Sky News Arabia where she was part of the team that launched the news channel, and then as a Project Director for Abu Dhabi Media and the capital’s media freezone entity, twofour54. 

Among other things she managed the re-launch of the UAE’s national nightly TV news program, Oloum al Dar. Sophie began her legal career in private practice, first at Buddle Findlay in New Zealand, followed by a move with Ashurst LLP to their TMT practice in London. Sophie is an accomplished public speaker and was the Vice President of the Student Law Society at the University of Canterbury. 


Location

The Emirates Golf Club is a well-known place in Dubai, and is easily accessible from Dubai Metro, by car and by bus. Conveniently located in 'New Dubai', the club is accessible off Sheikh Zayed Road and opposite Dubai Media City and Dubai Internet City, and not far from Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah. 

The Dubai Metro's Nakheel station is directly located outside the main entrance, making the club within walking distance for visitors.
