So we were on of those families where I worked in Dubai and DH worked in Abu Dhabi
so decided to make the lovely marina our home and now 2 kids later we have to move -
(we have since become a one income household and need the housing allowance!)
so pretty much no option but to move but the big question is where ?

Are there places in Abu Dhabi similar to the marina in terms of price and facilities - or I'm i being a bit too hopeful ?
(we currently have a 3 bed with wrap around balconies and all round sea and marina views for 90k)
we have 2 little kids so easy access - to the shops and play areas has been the best thing when the kids just need to get out of the house

A villa would be great but realistically which areas are they in and are the prices decent?

Looking forward to having DH home earlier - now just need to find a nice place to make home without breaking the budget
really hoping the EW ladies can help with

I have recently moved to Al Muneera compound, a two bedroom apartment costs around 100 k and you get attractive facilities such as swimming pools, private beach and a gym. The compound belongs to Al Dar company the best in AD. Worth looking into it. Good luck house hunting :) who said aldar are the best in ad.... thats your opinion it wont be many others.

you will find that you are unable to live in Al Ain though, it will have to be AD. Al Reem Island is coming on, and housing there is for now, more affordable. why al ain is in abu dhabi emirate and thats all i have heard they have stipulated so far.... the problem with al reem is they are very very small.

the other place to look at is al ain, same commute time, but cheaper cheaper prices and is still in abu dhabi.... depends on the exact wording of the law, i thought it was ad emirate.

Sorry I'm a little confused about why you're moving to AD, you will get absolutely nothing close to what you have for 90k so your housing budget is very definitely going to go up, you will get a 2 bed villa in Al Reef and thats about the cheapest place around, in my view too small for a family with 2 kids, Reem island might be suitable for you, shops there, it will be good when it's finished but a 3 bed there of a decent size is going to be in the 140k mark. hey lanark the new rule that ad government employees etc should live in ad emirate.

I guess this is the reason for the move. http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/move-to-abu-dhabi-or-risk-your-housing-allowance There are some nice places in AD - not quite the same as Dubai, but you just have to put a little effort into finding somewhere. there is differently two choices - off island which is always cheaper, (al reef, Khalifa city, MBZ) and on island (Al Reem being the newest) The decision you need to make first is the school you want your children to attend as school places are always a challenge and with this change in law will become more so..... So look at the schools then where you want to live. If your DH already works here he may know some of the places to look out for. Good luck edited by Tricia68 on 07/10/2012

Unfortunately there is nothing like Marina in AD, you just have to make a compromise cause you can't find it all (nice, new apt, beach, marina walk, all the facilities there, shops etc). In AD a nice place to live will cost you much more. There are so many residential areas...guess first of all you have to decide which area (on or off-island). The cheapest villas are in al reef, mbz, khalifa city. If you like to live in a tower then try al reem island or other towers in the city. If you want to spend more then check raha beach area. There is another AD woman forum where you can get a lot of info. You just have to get into it and think about the good things. You will spend more time as a family. For your dh it will be definately better ( more energy for the kids:)).
