I second Dr Bhatia. My friend had cornea problems and she recommended him to me as one day I started seeing flashes in one eye and freaked out. He fitted me in immediately, did loads of tests and is very patient. I find out that the sac that holds the eye fluid had come away from the retina and luckily I did not have a retina tear. Unfortunately I still have this huge floater in my vision that won't go away. He calls ever so often to check up on me which is fantastic service.
I needed an eye specialist recently after being quite careless with my contact lenses which lead to a corneal ulcer :( So did a search on EW for recommendation of eye specialists. Found this post and thought I'd try him. He was great, I've seen him about three times now. For checks on my cornea (which have improve and still is thankfully) and for a retinal examination. He is very thorough and like you said Frazzled very professional. He is very caring, answered all my questions brilliantly and also did my 3rd check up on my cornea free of charge. Thanks Frazzled for the recommendation! I was really happy (and much calmer!) especially after the scare I had with my eye.
