Thanks chick chick. How often does the dr from London come to Dubai? And will he accept to see a new patient? I really would like to have a 2nd opinion about the balloon angioplasty they want to do on DD next month. The thing is she just had a balloon done on Oct 7th that failed (done in the states). Her open heart surgery created a lot of scar tissue around the surgical site in her Aorta where she had an end to end repair for Coarctation of the Aorta. This scar tissue caused a re narrowing in her transverse arche. They were going to attempt a patch procedure on her Aorta, but that would mean open heart again and since she needs her Mitral replaced soon they dont want to build anymore scar tissue on her chest if they can avoid it. Anyway, i guess I am rambling here, I would just like to know the dr's name and how often he comes and where . I would like to get an appt w/him.

Yes, DD had a procedure quite a few years ago. The consultants that attended her were Dr Pillai and Dr Suresh. Dr Pillai left, but I do not know if Dr Suresh is still there. This is the only documented paper I can find to show they do actually perform cardiac surgery on infants. http://maciej.bioinfo.pl/pmid:12692017 http://www.mafraq-hosp.ae/ We do not go now as we are lucky have a consultant from Great Ormond Street hosp in London who comes to Dubai as a visiting doctor. They may not do surgery anymore, but I would be surprised, as when DD was born there was no where else to take her.

Chick Chick I would love to know more! Do you have a child that had cardiac surgery at Mafraq? If so, who is your cardiologist, surgeon, etc......and what heart defect does your LO have? I love our Cardi and feel our surgeon is good, but to have a choice of a 2nd opinion etc.... would be so beneficial especially from the surgeons aspect as there are other cardiologists here in Dubai but NO surgeons! Our DD will be having another balloon angioplasty in Feb and she will be needing her Mitral Valve replaced in the near but uncertain future. We were thinking of taking her to Childrens Boston in states for the Mitral replacement, but not 100% for sure yet. If you do have a cardiac baby I would love to talk to you, I am having a hard time finding other moms who have cardiac babies to talk to and help to keep each other encouraged!

The Mafraq hospital does Paediatric heart surgery. They used to be the only hopsital with paediatric cardiologists.

Sheikh Khalifa is the "ONLY" hospital doing "PEDIATRIC" cardiac surgery for now. Al Ain has been in the process of establishing a pediatric cardiology unit, but has not as of yet. SarkySue62 what kind of heart defect does your friends baby have??

We use the Mafraq Hospital. You need to get a health card from the Kuwaiti hospital (Dubai will issue it).

Hi SarkySue62, it is Sheikh Khalifa Medical Center. My daughter goes monthly to her cardiologist who is Dr. Hathem Talo, he is excellent! The surgeon is Dr. Lazlo, he is Hungarian and performed Open Heart surgery on my baby girl when she was 4 days old. But your friends baby would need to get an appointmnet with Dr. Talo first and then if surgery needs to be done he will set everything up for them. His number is : 02 610 3405 or to his direct line which he will answer if he is in his office is 02 610 3790.....hope this helps! edited by gusncoley on 30/01/2011
