Mmm wondering when the UAE is going to get involved. Have a feeling this isn't going to be nice at all. Reuters is saying "Bahrain said on Monday it had asked the Gulf troops for support in line with a GCC defense pact. The United Arab Emirates has said it would also respond to the call." http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/03/14/us-bahrain-protests-forces-idUSLDE72D0KH20110314

Dubai used to be like Bahrain. We left in the early 90's just as it was starting to grow. I think that is probably why Bahrain felt so familiar when we first arrived.

Agree with you SW, Bahrain is a lovely place, almost sleepy in comparison to Dubai, just wonder in to a store in the older town and end up chatting over tea for half an hour or so with the owners..... sometimes wish Dubai was more like Bahrain. I never felt unsafe in Bahrain or concerned about not being diplomatic! LOL edited by Sticky Wicket on 14/03/2011

It really is sad because this is such a great place to be - as you know the Bahrainis are such lovely, welcoming people and the minority are getting away with such appalling behaviour. This has a direct effect on how people view Bahrain. The country has been here before - in the 1990's and bounced back so we are ever the eternal optimists and hope that it can be resolved to the extent where normal day to day life can return. They are my favourite Arab nationals but the 90's was different in so many ways, for the sake of the future i hope they can get this stabilised quickly. Amazed the PM has not yet stepped down, sure it would help.

Potentially one of those situations that will get worse before it gets better I fear. We shall see.

Schools are already doing that for those older children who need it. Both BSB and St Chris are doing it. This will take a while to sort out. Most of us assume that the next few days will be particularly stressful. As far as the situation brewing, it has always been here, will continue to be here for years to come but there must be a resolve of this acute situation. Chronic it is most certainly, but heartbreaking to see. The majority of Bahrainis are not behind the radical behaviour of the few. Always the way huh? even in the West !!! edited by flip on 14/03/2011 Yes sad to hear for those of us who lived there and know the country so well. Interesting times for all in the ME.

Well I certainly hope that the influx of assistance from of Gulf states calms the situation, either that or it's going to get a lot worse.

Been reading some quite scary reports on twitter about thugs attacking people in the streets etc. Looks like lots of people have had enough now.

The messing with the banking area will not be tolerated for sure, have no doubt this will be out a stop to fast, but it will continue brewing for years to come. Now waiting for our Bahraini friends to decide whether they manouver over here for a while or sit it out. (some have already sent family). Lets hope the trouble makers don't start getting really silly. Schools could be sending work home via internet or teachers in the compounds could run some classes for older students who are to sit exams this year.

No probs here. It all seems to be centred around Pearl Roundabout and Seef. The whole are is cordoned off with make shift barriers across the roads - mounds of dirt and crashed cars. It looks like a ****** holiday camp on speed. There are other areas of action but they seem to move all the time. MY DH had trouble getting up from down south yesterday, around Madinat Hamad but today that is fine. We are all lying low and all the schools are shut. We do have friends who are leaving tonight but I would poo my pants having to drive to the airport - seems daft to me. Seriously, joking aside, most of us welcome this development - the situation cannot be allowed to continue - they are holding the country to ransom.

Mmm wondering when the UAE is going to get involved. Have a feeling this isn't going to be nice at all. They are aren't they? I understood it was a GCC force that has been sent, so would include UAE soldiers..... could be wrong but that's what i am assuming... Yes UAE and GCC states force put together for such things.
