sever pain after vit d injection

I'm on my way to drs shortly but withing 24hrs of getting the vit d injection I started getting pain in my right bum cheek where the injection was given. This pain is deep inside and has progressively got worse over the last 2 days. Now today I can barely function and move and I'm shaking and in tears from pain and getting dizzy. I've never felt pain like it. I'm wondering if the needle hit the nerve or there is air bubble inside. But that's just my head swirling, I'm not medically trained! Anyone else experienced this pain after an injection?

Thanks all. It was the nurse who administered and not the Dr. He asked where it was done and when I said at that clinic he said "oh". I told him what I suspected had happened and after examining me he agreed and prescribed the meds and said if it didnt get any better Id need to see a neurologist. I was going to see how today went on the meds with rest, and I have a friend who was going to check on me tonight, if no or marginally better they were taking me to see a neurologist. Thanks for all your advice xx

Agree with Advice Seeker... Have a second opinion. What did the doctor say when you showed him your condition? Did he even apologize for the mistake or do something to rectify it other than prescribing extra meds? Was it him who administered the injection or the nurse? What did he have to say for the injection hitting the nerves? I hope its ok and will get better soon!! Rest Well.. But do go show it some other doc if the pain persists.

Honestly, I would go and get another opinion and make sure there is no serious damage that has been deflected since it was a mistake by the doctor you're seeing (not saying that I know its a mistake, but just to be sure) I agree, the Dr who did this may not be as honest as they should be incase they implicate themselves. Hope you feel better soon.

Honestly, I would go and get another opinion and make sure there is no serious damage that has been deflected since it was a mistake by the doctor you're seeing (not saying that I know its a mistake, but just to be sure)

Hi ladies, thanks for the concern. I went to Drs yesterday, struggled to get there and I think the taxi driver thought I was in labour in the back seat of his car! I was in so much pain and by the time I got to the Drs I had lost feeling in my complete right leg and hip, and my feet were cold. I got out the taxi and stumbled over my right leg, and today Im feeling the pain for that! As I suspected the injection has hit the nerves and they are now inflamed/infected, there is heat and swelling around the injection area but nothing visible on the skin, its deep inside my right "glute"! ive got strong meds for the nerves to be mixed with Panadol Extra (!) and small/light movements or none if possible (not possible). Im still in pain and my right leg is still numb from the knee down, but least its coming alive again bit but bit. if it doesnt get any better I need to see neurologist. Im just hoping this is not permanent or semi permanent as I dont fancy a walking stick! Im home and bed bound! I think it was D3 I had, but will double check, though Im sure it was D3 that was on the blood test results - I showed 4.74, deficiency was less than 11.1 and I think normal was 50.7 - but thats off the top of my head and whilst Im on meds! If anyone else is considering the injection, dont, take the meds if you can instead! Is this malpractice? My dad is wanting to sue!! Bless him ....

Babylons, How are you now ? These medicines Vit d's and B12 can also be taken in tablet form in high doses. Speak with your Doctor if anyone does not want an injection. <em>edited by jewelsmiddle on 23/03/2011</em>

Babylons, agree with the others... I've had the vitamin D injection and didn't have any pain afterwards... just slightly sore (like a bruise) on that spot for a couple of days. Follow up with your doctor on this.

My friend was also in a lot of pain after B12 injections, but not like you are describing. Sometimes the fluid just sits in a pocket in the muscle and can't disperse properly or a nerve could have been hit. Definitely go and get it looked at, because that doesn't sound right at all. Hope you feel better soon.

Babylons. I have had the injection and the pain was no where close to what you describe. The consistency of the fluid administered was thick so it hurts when it hits the muscle and there is slight bump that lingers there for days but the pain that you talk about is peculiar. Please show it to the same doctor. There has to be some reason why you're having this terrible pain. Hope you get better soon!! xx Let us know what the doctor said..

I cannot imagine how low your levels were, but mine were virtually NIL and yet the rhematologist refused the injection and gave me orally instead. gl ETA I remember what the Dr said now, the injections are Vit D2 and what is needed is VitD3, so that is why they give me 50,000 units of Vit D3 per week. <em>edited by vero possumus on 23/03/2011</em>
