I may be moving to Abu dhabi within the next 6 weeks due to DH job. I am a registered childminder in Scotland. Can anyone advise me on how to get registered in AD.

Also, can anyone direct me to the best schools. I have a 11 & 12 year old.

Thanks

Thanks Busybee2, guess I'll not be working unless I get a 'proper' job then. And thanks Ivgray, what school are you going to work at? I have been looking at schools for my children. Totally confused.

Hi Nessie 99, I am also moving to Abu DHabi in Aug/Sept time, as I have a job as a teacher over there. Initially my husband will not be working, however he may be looking for work over there, in which case we MAY need a childminder. It would certainly put my mind at ease knowing that my 1yr old son would be being looked after by a registered childminder. If, nearer the time, my husband does want to work, would you be interested in working privately? Maybe thats the way for you to earn a living over there anyway, looking after British expat children, if they don't have such a thing. x you are not allowed to do it privately. you must sponsor people here, either as a driver/maid etc. its not that easy, you have to be licensed some way. you must have a labour card, insurance, etc etc. there are a few nanny agencies, but not like you think from the uk. there are big consequences if you are caught out. if you are hiring an illegal maid the fine can be upwards from 50k, court, jail time etc. i know people who have been caught and its not fun at all. you must follow the rules here, otherwise you can come a cropper. i know someone who was dumped in it from her husband and has been in jail for 2 years with more to follow for bouncing cheques.

childminding in abu is different than uk. people here use maids and such like. there are no such things as childminder even if you are qualified, even with nannies etc. if you have qualifications you could go and work in a school and be paid more than people without but even that isnt very well paid. i would contact any of the schools and put your name down, as i suspect you will find it very difficult, couple of things that are in your favour will be that your kids are not little (most difficult years to get in) and secondly if you can afford it a new school is opening up in sept called brighton college. there are not enough spaces in the brit curriculum and there are big waiting lists. in order to get into schools here you usually have to apply way back at the beginning of the year.
