CCdoha, you know that saying.... "can't fix stupid". Which is exactly what I tell myself pretty much everyday. We registered our car almost a month ago, and have yet to receive the sms they told us we would get to pick up our plates... So it's been almost a month and no sms.....guess I should trek down to Khalifa Traffic Dept before 30 days pass... just to be told I need to come back another time, which will probably lapse the 30 days they give... Yep, typical Doha.

The official Shell poster for the event said ''strict arrival between 12-2pm with the road closed at 2pm'' - it didn't actually say what time the event would start. Of course, I read it wrong and thought it started at 12, so got there super early. The F1 driver did quite a few laps (maybe 8) after the Ferrari Parade took place....

Kind of like when I went to renew the registration on my car at the CC kiosk. I was told it was open til 4pm, on that day is was already after 4 so I waited til the next day and went over there around 2pm - only to find a sign that said open til 1pm so I had DH leave work early next day to go before 1pm and GUESS WHAT - no one was there at 12:30 and someone else waiting said they had been there since 12:15 :) SO - it was the last day to do it so we journeyed off to Khalifa traffic dept and waited to get it done there, there were signs everywhere about the new Qatar plates but nothing indicated they were mandatory. After the reg was renewed, the lady said we were finished. So we left...the next day, we get a SMS saying we have to go back to Khalifa Traffic Dept to pick up the new plates within 30 days. When I went back, I read the sign says that you cannot pick them up before they sms you so the lady was right, we were finished at that time but I think it is really ridiculous that you have to go BACK to get the stupid plate!! Oh, and you can't just pick up your plate, you have to wait in a long queue for them to take your old ones off for you and put the new ones on for you, unless you own the machine that does it!?!?!?

To be fair, they actually said arrive between 12-2pm because the roads would be closed from 2pm. The actual start was advertised to be 2:30pm. Edited to add, that I can't actually find where I read that it started at 2:30pm...so no wonder it wasn't well known! But my son went and said it was very boring, they only saw the car go past once at 2:40pm (he could have got the time wrong though). They waited another 20-30 minutes and there was no more action so they left. :( edited by Tania on 22/01/2012

This was a very badly organised event indeed. End-less waiting. They said people be there between 12 and 2 and then started the whole thing at 3.30. Disappointing...
