Help!!!! Stolen documents for attestation!

Hi Guys,
I need help. Just moved to join hubby with kids and we sent doc to my home country for attestation. However the person who was helping us got attacked by robbers who made away with his car along with our doc. Thank god he wasn't hurt in the process but we face a huge problem. he has faxed us police report relating to the theft and we are having to start over obtaining these docs which take time and money. Where do we go to explain our plight while we work on getting the documents. This affects everything we need to do here - school, residence etc. Advice needed.
