Ladies with children at JESS Ranches, particularly secondary, I have a few questions.

How good is the school at communicating/consulting with parents?
Does it provide an education that is tailored to the individual child's needs (as far as it can) or is it very one size fits all?
And how good is it at picking up and dealing with academic issues such as failure to meet expectations?

It is a relatively small (secondary) school by Dubai standards, and I wonder if this gives it an advantage over larger schools in terms of communication, monitoring and the personal touch?!

Hi, I had a tour of the school and although very small, I really loved it. And they did mention that they have a system for helping children catch up very fast. If they see one lagging behind, they take him/her aside and do some extra hours in consultation with parents of course, and it seems they do this pretty often. Their philosophy is that you need to catch it fast, before the child looses too much ground and starts feeling stupid and overwhelmed. I really loved the way they presented the school. I visited a few others but they did not give me the same feeling of being thorough and thoughtful and really having children's interest first. I have the feeling most schools in Dubai are primarily business oriented. I also asked how much time are parents expected to spend with the children on home assignment and they said none! I really love that as I am of the opinion that doing all of these complex projects that are way above a child's ability are of no use to either them or the over exhausted parents and that they should be as independed as possible as early as possible. Plus I'd rather spend time reading a book or playing for those few hours at home rather than doing homework with them. And 5-6 hrs a day is more than enough for a child to study, they really do not need more than that. We passed by the library and there was a group of children perusing the books and I saw these two girls in a sort of tent on one side, each one sitting in a corner with their book while all the other children were on the opposite side of the room. I also found this really great as it provides an outlet for the introvert children out there, not only for the extroverts. My daughter is on the waiting list so I do hope we will get in. I was truly impressed with this school. So please, once your child starts school there, do let us know your impressions(:

Well they didn't tell me about that. I did hear about the bus from jum branch to AR branch, but not sure is it going to be doable or just another long day for me and the kids on the roads.

Cant the secondary child go on the bus Gorabattie? I thought they ran a decent bus service up to the Ranches, but then it depends where you are based. Otherwise, I know the parking at drop off is pretty bad - Saw it when I went for the tour.

I'm joining your plea for insider views, as I'm bracing myself when start splitting school drop offs between Jumierah and Arabian Ranches next year. So this is my bump for this thread
