RTA Installs New, Smarter Cameras

In an effort to ensure safety across Dubai roads, the Roads Transport Authority (RTA) have installed new cameras across the emirate.

You might have already seen one while out and about, but these new robotic-looking cameras are a lot more advanced than what you're used to. These tall, slender cameras are capable of more than your average speeding fine.

In fact, and there's a few of them already out and about in Dubai at major junctions, these new cameras - known as Mesta Fusion - have many specifications and features that enables them to be used for "driver behaviour monitoring and enforcement solutions".

So ladies, if you're known for your bad habits of driving while talking on the phone, tailgating or undertaking... Think again before you do each next time! Otherwise you'll be facing a flash and a fine in no time.

These state-of-the-art cameras are able to monitor the following:

  • Speed monitoring by vehicle type, which means if a truck is supposed to be at 80km/h on SZR and a car at 100 km/h, it will automatically detec the type of vehicle.
  • Due to the auto number plate detection, the radar can scan cars for vehicles of interest and report them to Dubai Police, and also know if they're entering restricted areas.
  • Tailgating can now be detected on a preset minimum distance between vehicles.
  • It can detect vehicles overtaking on the wrong side (undertaking).
  • Had shoulder violations will be caught easily.
  • Low-speed vehicles can be monitored where there is a minimum speed limit enforced.
  • At signals and junctions, the camera can be programmed for yellow box management, red light crossing violations and illegal turns.

There's no doubt these new cameras are a welcomed advancement in an effort to ensure Dubai's roads are safe at all times.
