Overcrowding is not a huge problem these days...though i do know October will be a very FULL month since many new members have signed up...so its possible that might change. I would reccomend trying it out to see if it works for you. Im close to Aspire so the drive isnt bad. Some of the popular classes get filled up quickly and in those cases you might have to come earlier. But that being said, I have noticed this month, they have revised the schedule so that 2 of the popular classes are held at the same time...ppl have to choose one or the other and so there is no over crowding. But again, that might change. Spinning is pretty good at Aspire (I like it a lot..but I havent tried it anywhere else..so wouldnt know how to compare). There are many instructors who do spinning, and I would reccomend trying them all out to see which instructor/class/music you like better. The variety of classes is great - Spinning, Tae Bo, Rip n Lift (Weight lifting), Kettle bell, Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, Step, RIPPED, and many others etc. The other thing I like, is that they introduce new classes every few weeks, and also change the routines in the classes every few weeks. Give it a try for a month and see if you like it?

Hi Dan Lou that was exactly what I was bothered about having to stand in line for 30 mins for a class but maybe it has improved now GAW should be able to confirm that !? It does seem value for money as the going rate seems to be an eye watering 50 riyal on a pay as you go basis everywhere I looked and fitness first is 1799 for 3 months !! I can't believe exercising is so expensive here after being in the UK where you have city gyms all desparate for business and great deals to be had....on a good day I am only 10 minutes from aspire so it seems like the best option if overcrowding is not a major problem GAW which classes are fine without having to queue for ages and is the spinning any good ??

Hi Liro, as Gaw says give it a go, if you try it for a month there's nothing lost really! But.... my experience in my trial month was that I was a bit frustrated that when I signed up for a class I had to stay in a queue until the class started. In the past at other gyms I'd sign in and then pop on the bike or treadmill for say 20 minutes. But at Aspire (at least when I tried it, probably 2 years ago, things may have changed) it was required to stand in the line to keep "your place". The classes themselves were pretty good, some better than others, and of course you get out what you put in, but they are (or used to be) only 45 mins. So to drive there, stand in a queue, have a 45 min class and then drive home - I decided ultimately I could get a better workout at our compound gym. That's just my experience. Like most things in Doha, you've just got to give it a go and see if it works for you, good luck!

I would say that the membership is worth if you are able to attend classes between 8-11.00am and 16-20pm, Sunday through Thursday, and if you are not too far from the Villagio. All classes are included (zumba, pilates, yoga, tae bo,...) Teachers are quite good, always smiling even the audience is not 'performing' very well (from what I have seen) I know that Fitness First has higher prices and most of the time you have to subscribe for a longer period. At Aspire, even if you subscribe per month, it is not too expensive. Just try it and see if it is for you :-)

can i just ask Gaw whether you think the membership is worth it? Are there plenty of good classes to go to? just as my gym at home was everything all in for the same price as their basic..or is that normal for Qatar? Thanks

They probably do now for the period starting on October 1. You have first a trial period of one month (QAR 200). Last month I renewed my membership for a three-months period (QAR 450). For that price you have access to all fitness classes (aquatics and gym are available for extra fees). You can also have register per class (QAR 50) but I guess it depends on availability. Some classes are probably crowded (but they have a maximum number of participants) but not the ones I selected ;-) Attention: you can not enter with your phone if it has a camera (as they do not want local ladies to be photographed)-deposit at the entrance-, and bags are automatically checked. Sorry to hijack an old post....Does anyone know if they are taking new memberships at the moment ?? if so can you just register for the classes which is all I really want or do you have to add on a gym or swim package ? If anyone goes here what are the classes like and do they get really busy or over subscribed ??

dont go by what the recorded voicemail says...they dont always update that. You could try posting on their facebook page and ask if registerations are open for the womens classes. Or just drive by. I will go there perhaps sometime next week..I could check as well and let you know.

The Ramadan timings for registration are: ASPIRE Active Ramadan Registration Hours Ladies Club: Sunday & Tuesday, 8am to 11am Sunday to Wednesday, 7:30pm to 10pm I find the facebook page very helpful...it is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Aspire-Active/248407748562922 I usually post questions there and get a response fairly quickly..within a day or so. I have never had any luck calling them.

Try this: http://www.aspire.qa/ASPIREACTIVE/Membership/Pages/Membership.aspx But bear in mind it can be difficult it can be to register per below posts - and as with everything in Qatar, phone isn't generally the best way to get in contact

I went in Feb to try and join for March and was told then that March and April were full, I subsequently heard that if you go on the first day of the month they often have openings. I have not been back to check yet, but was thinking about doing so for what remains of April even though you have to pay the full month. Going in person is the best bet, it's open morning and then again at 4pm. I have always gone at around 4pm and it's been very busy with one person working at the desk.

For the ladies with toddlers - I registered my toddler at Aspire a week ago after being told in August that the classes were so full there wasn't even space on the waiting list! Just so you know :)

Actually, do you know what, it's going to be QR550 a month including swimming. She wouldn't let me add on the swimming yesterday as I have to do a stupid swim test first. Maybe I can afford to join the Ritz after all!!

Amy, that's great news!! Look forward to "meeting" you there! Thanks for posting that you were able to register for Nov and how much you paid- I didn't realise it was so expensive for the whole package. I pay 450 QR for three months of classes only (no gym or aqua aerobics- we have a gym and a pool at my compound), so I thought that the prices were really reasonable compared to other fitness clubs... guess it's about the same when you add on the gym and aqua. Happy working-out!

I signed up today! They are closed for October, but not for november, so membership starts then :) QR400 a month though! Ouch. So annoying as they make you sign up for classes first (which I don't want) and then gym and swimming (which I do want) are extra on top. Grrrrr.

Hi ladies, I was told that registration closed at the end of Sept as they filled up again... that's way it works with Aspire-- when you hear they open for registration again, I advise you go immediately to sign up b/c they will shut it down again as soon as they fill up (with no notice). Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

Glad to help, DanLou! I noticed that many ladies on this board were frustrated by Aspire's closed registration (and subsequent lack of information about re-opening registration), so that's why I thought to post a notice when they re-opened registration. Glad you were able to sign up and look forward to seeing you from 1 Oct onwards! Now prepare yourself for the "American high school" approach to fitness club management... metal detectors, mobile phone checkpoints, security guards with wands! More security at Aspire Ladies Club than at Doha airport!

Just a HUGE thank you to Desertdiva! I had called this place when I arrived in Doha a year ago, and a few times since but given the phone response was less than encouraging I'd put it in the old too hard basket. But lo and behold after your post I went in this morning and have signed up, so thank you very very much. Now if only the 1st would roll around quicker!!
