I will be moving to Doha in a few months from Abu dhabi, we have had a housemaid here for 4 yrs but she doesn't want to move to Doha, so I am left to look for a new one when we arrive, or even before if possible! any suggestions for agencies to use to find a good reliable live-in housemaid that can cook, clean and help a little with the kids? I don't mind training her a bit but her English must be good to begin with.

Wow Lulubaker - this could almost work out perfectly for us, as my housemaid will be available at the end of August as well (which is when we are anticipating moving from Abu Dhabi to Dohai). Please send me an email and we can chat. I posted my email address on the other thread, as I don't want to give out too many personal details on this forum. We treat our housemaid very well, pay her well, give her days off, and treat her with respect. So, sounds like we are similar in that way. Thanks!

Ladies, I am moving to AD at the end of August, and had hoped to take my housemaid with us. However, this is proving impossible, so VERY reluctantly, I am looking for a lovely family to take her. She is 51, Philippina and EXTREMEY honest and hardworking. Always cheerful and very discreet, good cook. NEVER has asked to borrow money. Good at laundry & ironing. She's great with animals too - I have 2 small dogs & 3 cats who she looks after every time we go on holiday. To be honest, she has quite an easy life with me, my kids are teenagers so no small kids for her to deal with. Whoever takes her would have to sponsor her (obviously) and she won't be available til end of August, but as I'm leaving for the UK on 15th July, I would ideally like to get something sorted out before then if possible.

I've two neighbours planning on sharing a maid from the agency . Since they both now used 35QR per hour agency maids it's a good deal for them . She will work 4 hours a day for each . Aware that the maid is unlikely to save much of the money herself they plan to give her extra directly as their costs are effectively halved . I have decided to try to sponsor a live in again . We were rejected because our maid we tried to bring from Bahrain was too old and from India which has some restrictions apparently . If anyone hear's of someone here already in Qatar please let me know .

Thank you BEDH for the new number! This seems like a great option especially if for whatever reason you can't sponsor someone (we already sponsor a nanny and the pro at dh's office says we can sponsor a male driver, but not another lady)... Story seems to be, the maid works 8 hours/ 5 days a week. You pay the agency 2000/ month- this covers housing, transportation and sponsorship. You are requested to provide lunch for her. It seems tyou have one lady assigned to the house, so youd have the same person every day. I am probably going to give the service a try and will let you all know how it is. I asked about having someone come for half days (which would be ideal for us), and he said that would be around 1700/ month because the transport costs are still the same. Edited to add: my only real question is how much do the maids themselves earn if 2000 covers some of the food, housing, and transportation. edited by JillMV on 30/06/2012

Thanks for the offer lalala, but I think we arrive in August (not sure if pre or post ramadan yet) I'm not so worried about speed more about someone who can help dh with the children if he needs it or do some cooking while he deal with the children - I'm guessing he'll find it tough being wiht them 24/7 as he's not used to it, so some help will smooth the transition. I've noted the numver you posted and will give it and BEDH's number a call in July when it's a bit closer (July is only next week though - yikes!)

Feedback is she seemed very slow, however that's the individual not the agency! Turned up on time, was pleasant and spoke good English. My maid's sick. She finds it quite odd that she's now telling another maid what to do (and also can't work out how it can take four hours to clean two rooms). mrsw2: not sure when you're getting here but DH is being a househusband for the first three weeks of July so give me a shout if your DH is looking for company then.

Is it the RP being in place or the bank statements? If the latter, will the government accept another country's (in the GCC) bank statements? Might reduce the waiting time for sponsoring so might be worth asking about?

Is that really 3 babies or just a phrase? :) Well 3 children, but they're all my babies - and two not school age yet, so dh will have his hands full. I'd hope they might be able to do as discount for say 8 weeks full time, but who knows. A maid for your maid? Sounds interesting :) Any fedback appreciated though, as we ahve a couple of weeks before we arrive, so i'm planning ahead

I doubt they'll be as cheap as QAR1,800 but this is the agency I'm starting with (I'm getting a maid for my maid, long story!). Will tell you tomorrow if any good: 44166630 Haven't written the name down. They're charging QAR35 an hour. Maybe reductions for full time, I didn't ask. A lot of people use liveouts who aren't on their sponsorship. It's not legal and in theory there's a big fine. I have never heard of anyone being fined. The main issue is that you have very little legal protection if, for example, she steals from you (you can't go to the police because you she wasn't working for you legally). If your husband is going to be home all day then that's less of an issue. She may not be legal here but there are Nepali's who meet the minimum for being able to sponsor families. Not many, but some! Is that really 3 babies or just a phrase? :)

Thanks - I'm just trying to get organised as I start work almost straight away leaving dh at home holding the babies (3 of them) so to speak. Not that he's not good with them , he is... I just think he'll need some help. That's a good idea to see how things pan out when we get there. It just seemed to good to be true when someone here said they know someone in Doha who might be able to help even if only in the short term. I guess I need to relax a bit and stop trying to get everything 100% organised! I think we may be in for a bit of a culture shock, aren't we.

Mrsw2 It could just be complicated promising some one work before you actually arrive without really knowing their status . life for a newcomer in Doha is difficult enough . Saying that I borrowed a maid for a month when we arrived last July and arranged it through this site . Wait till you get here and ask around ( your buliding /compound, security guards , other maids , neighbours etc ) and you can find a part timer easily especially in a big compound . As long as they have the sponsors permission ladies seem to get away with working like this but it's a bit of a grey area legally .

Thanks BEDH, that's helpful. It's so complicated. I'd rather not get into any trouble and defintely not so soon after we arrive. maybe we'll also look into an agency for some temp help until we get the visas and everything sorted out.

just be careful she is actually on her husbands sponsorship ( he needs to earn a set amount before he can sponsor her and as a Nepali he unlikely to met the minimum ) . She coul just be on a tourist visa which will only last 1 month . It's not legal to hire her but your will get on more trouble caught with an overstayer and of course you can't sponser her till you are resident 6 months . When you apply for a permit to hire a maid you are also told which nationality you can hire . This is pesky if you line up someone and then are told you can only hire another nationality . once you are given a visa you can only hire the same nationality for the whole time you are here .

Hello ladies - I think I probably know the answer to this question from reading lots of posts abou hiring a maid but I'll ask anyway... When we arrive in Doha in a couple of weeks we want to find a maid. We've been put in touch with someone from nepal in DOha on he husband's sponsorhip already. Can I employ ehr for say a couple of months as a trial run? If it works out does she need to be sponsored by me as she's already in Doha. I'm kind of assuming that the answer is that it's not legal. I don't have a problem with sponsoring her/anyone in principal. I'm more worried about the first coupld of months - can we have her work for us when we're not actually in a position to sponsor her as we will just be in the process of getting RPs ourselves.

Just to add if you use a live out maid agency the same lady doesn't come every time . This means , from my experience you really have to be in to supervise and not in anyway good child minding should you need someone to watch them . The non legal route is to employ a part or full timer on soemone else's sponsorship . But you are then faced with possible fines and the maid can just take off at no notice . As you can probably tell this whole business has me really peeved .

We have been here almost a year and I have still not been able to employ a housemaid . I arrived and gave birth to a second child three weeks afterwards . we were not able to bring our maid with us as she was rejected on nationality . I tried to sponsor another resident maid and was rejected as I don't work . I have stated that I will work ( teacher ) when I can employ a maid - no luck . my husband works in senior role for a government organization and colleagues have brought or employed maids without issue . I am in a compound where non working woman employ maids of the same nationality of our orginial maid and have no children living with them . I don't get it .

I think I said earlier that some governmental employers seem to be getting around the 6 month bank statement requirement to sponsor family. This is based on experience of my husband's particular government agency and I have no idea if it's a general rule or not. Best person to ask is your husband's employer. Without confirmation from them I wouldn't guarantee that you and your children will get residency immediately (although you can do visa runs in the meantime). I don't know with relation to a maid (we've been here for 5 years!) but certainly for us we had to do the entire visa process ourselves with no assistance from my husband's employer - no one cared who he worked for. You may be able to get around the rules but I think it's fairly unlikely particularly if you are not working and don't have a 'good' reasons to persuade immigration that you're a special case (eg 'medical' reason for needing extra assistance, very young children or multiples). As with everything in Doha a lot will depend on the person you get on the day. The main agency for live out seems to be Qatar Maid Agency - do a search on here/online, I don't have details.

yodaisis its because they require the maids sponsor (your husband) to have 6 months of bank statements for the maid application. i dont know if government employees are exempt from this.

Lalala- how come we would have to wait 6months? Is that because we have to wait for the residency permit/visa to come thro for my husband? As my dh would work for govt so may not have to wait them required time periods...
