Hello!

I hope everyone is doing just fine. Registered on this forum today...it has lots of great info. I am moving to Doha in September....on my own. It would appear that many of the ladies on here are in Doha with their partners and have children. Are there many women on here that have moved to Doha on their own? If so, would you like to meet up when I get over for a coffee? Also I am looking for 1-2 people to share a villa/compound villa in Westbay or Al Waad areas....anyone know anybody looking for a housemate?

I am a little aprehensive about moving over to Doha on my own....I'm a social animal...and sitting on my own in the evenings with no friends in Doha would not be my idea of fun....so would appreciate any assistane/advice/ introductions people can make for me?!!

Look forward to hearing from some of you.

Lifeisforliving:)

Hi ladies I've also just moved to Doha I'm not single but as I'm not working or have children I'm finding it hard to meet people, I would love to meet up for coffe/glass of wine. I'm Irish & outgoing and missing the busy social life I had

RachelA, I'm not single either, but not having kids I have a bit more free time to fill. I know what you mean about activities being scheduled during working hours. I work full-time, but Friday afternoon is prime time for coffee meetings. QPWN is a great group for newcomers. They have a networking meeting on the first Monday evening of every month, and it's always well-attended by interesting ladies who are keen to chat. Highly recommended! halfpatbxt, I actually am here with my family (DH and 1 teenage son) but my DH is away more than he's here, so sometimes I do feel like a single mom. I've been here about 7 1/2 years, which I NEVER imagined would happen since we first came on a 15 month contract. One of the biggest challenges, especially for newcomers, is that so many activities are scheduled during the workday and/or revolve around kids (thinking coffee mornings and school-related functions). Those of us who work full time have a tougher time meeting new people (outside of work of course). Arranging to meet up with people with shared interests and similar schedules makes a world of difference. I assume that any single women who are here are here for their own work, so one thing I can suggest is the Qatar Professional Women's Network (QPWN). They host networking events every month -- of course these are always in the evening, outside of regular working hours! https://www.facebook.com/pages/Qatar-Professional-Womens-Network/300921385237 edited by halfpatbxl on 11/09/2012

Hi Rachel, Yeah, I now see what you mean about 'SWF' being rather an odd way to identify oneself (I was just copying from the original post without even thinking). Anyway, we should all stick together as single females in a city packed with families. Have you been in Doha for a long time? Hey Mo, Cool, looking forward to hearing from you when you get here. Have a safe trip.

Welcome to all the new arrivals! I totally understand why singles would want to connect with other singles as it is indeed a different day to day life than those who are here with family. And I really get the idea of meeting up with other women -- I've made my share of great friends through EW. But I've got to ask -- why would any of you feel the need to identify your skin color? Strikes me as very odd. edited by RachelA on 27/08/2012

Theseus I was at city center last night too! but didn't see this post since I was out all day home hunting! How do communicate other girls here in the forum without compromising personal details? Posting email/mobiles numbers don't seem to be a good idea, why there's no PM option ta the forum? I think we're supposed to organise a formal event or something and they will then post it in the events page. I have just joined a qatarexpats group on facebook.

Hi Mo So far so good. Work is great, everyone is really friendly. It helped that I knew a few folks before I got here, and my boss and his wife have been so good in looking after me and helping me find my feet. I'm just starting to look for a car to rent so hopefully will be mobile soon. It can be a bit of a pain getting around without wheels, but not too bad. The taxis are good. I've just been to the City Centre Mall to stock up on some food and had a wander around some of the shops too. Can't wait to get to meet more people. I'm also looking at joining some groups. Let me know when you're here and we'll arrange something.

I'm going for a coffee next Monday at 11:45 am at Jones the Grocer with a couple of girls from New Zealand. I just arrived here 3 weeks ago. Let me know if you want to join us! loloatdoha - Thanks ever so much, I'd love to, but I actually work full time so I'm only free to meet people evenings and weekends. Have a great time!

Hi there, just reading through some threads (as I do, as I feel this is such a Fab & informative site!)... Loloatdoha - in your message below you say you are meeting friends for coffee at Jones the Grocers at 11:45 next Monday - Sorry - as it is still Ramadan, you won't be able to get Any coffee in any general public coffee/restaurant place in Doha until evening (apart from some of the 5* hotels (Renaissance, Marriott, W, Ramada, etc)). From the 18th/19th Ramadan will end, and therefore you will have All the choice of coffee houses. Yay, we are now more than half way through Ramadan!
