Hello Ladies, I have emailed admin about the PM thing, to see if it can be activated. In the meantime and to avoid potential spammers, it would be great if those of you that have responded below could text me your email addresses..... I would love yo meet up with you when I get over there. KatRock....do you know of anyone looking to to share accommodation? Thanks! Mo :-)

Hi LS, I was looking the PM option too but apparently is disabled, I previously posted my email but deleted the info since spammers attacked right away! I'm going for a coffee next Monday at 11:45 am at Jones the Grocer with a couple of girls from New Zealand. I just arrived here 3 weeks ago. Let me know if you want to join us!

Mo, I'm not a single lady here, but have only been here for 5 weeks and am keen to meet people - I'm about all summer so I'm happy to arrange a coffee sometime. Is there a PM function on here?

Hello Ladies, Thank you all for your responses. Katcalls and loloatdoha....I would love to meet up with you both for a coffee. I will PM you both. Katniss and Marycatherine...thank you for the suggestions. I'm irish and I love travelling and socialising and experiencing new cultures. I plan to join some groups when I get out to Doha. Do any of you ladies know of anyone looking for a Villa share or any nice villas that are coming up for rent? Thanks again for your responses and advice...I appreciate you taking the time to do it! Cheers, Mo :-)

The only caveat I would make about joining one of the many church congregations (and they range from the traditional to the evangelical and every where in between) is that prosletysing is illegal everywhere in the GCC, so any activities that might be related to such should be carefully considered. Of course attending services or group meetings of like minded people are not considered prosletysing, trying to "educate" those who are not members of a particular religious persuasion (i.e. Christians trying to convert Hindus or Bhuddists etc etc) is and has serious consequences. Some groups have been warned (to the point of deportation orders issued and then later rescinded) because of prosletyzing in the past. There are other volunteer groups - animal welfare for example, that are always looking for new people to help. If you are from the US - the American Women's Association is fairly active. There is also an active running group (if you run) and they do run in this weather but at 0500 hrs. If you have a specific activity or interest, mention it here, chances are you'll find a few interested people and possibly already an established group - photography is one popular activity as is the natural history people (local flora/fauna/archeology etc.)

May I suggest visiting one of the churches in Qatar. They meet on Fridays and it's every week so there are a lot of chances to meet other expats in a congenial atmosphere. They styles range from traditional to charismatic so you have a wide choice of venues! You also get a chance to scope out spin-off activities such as volunteer programs, etc.

Hi Mo, I'm in Doha as a SWF. It's not so bad - it better not be, I've been here for over 3 years now! The key is that you have to make an effort to make friends. That means going to coffee mornings/events where you don't know anyone. The Qatars Professional Woman's Network (QPWN) is apparently a very good way to meet people. They are active on Facebook. Also, I've found the folks at the Doha Expats Meetup group to be really friendly and they do lots of interesting things. Google "Meetup Doha expats" and the group will pop up. I'd love to meet up for coffee but I'll be gone for most of September and October. If you're still keen to meet up into November just drop a message on this thread and I'll be in touch. I understand the apprehension. Moving to a brand new place on your own is a big deal. The entry into Doha can be very bumpy, you need about 6 months to ease your way into life here.
