Zuzu,
My husband's just been offered a job with Sidra. I'd actually prefer Saray Towers over a compound because I'd like to be central- close to Al Corniche and restaurants. Did you have any say in your accommodations or did they basically inform you of where you'd be living? I'm wondering if my husband will be able to negotiate housing...
Hi guys, I am in the same situation as Tilly. I was just told I will be staying at Saray Tower. I was hoping for the 44 West Bay tower, but I suppose it has filled up. Tilly, are you in Doha yet? If so what do you think of the apartment. Also, do they provide singles with 1 bdrm or 2? From the pictures they sent me, the inside of the apartment seems comparable to the West Bay buildings, however, I know the area is very crowded and not the most pretty neighbourhood...also probably a bit far from the Sidra office considering traffic.
Is the housing department at Sidra flexible? I will be in Doha in 10 days, and I am not sure if I should ask about other housing options now or if I should just stick with this and see how it is when i get there.
Thanks.

Agree with MaryCatherine if it was me I would fight hard to get Al Rayyan Oasis which is much nicer all round....but it looks like until all the staff housing at Education City is ready which is not in the forseeable future then Saray is the main residence -as stated it is much cheaper for housing here but the traffic there is horrendous and all around the C ring is a nightmare in fact ! but they do give you a worker bus to get you to and from offices so at least you won't have to attempt a drive to work...
I very much doubt if any but the upper echelon of SIDRA staff would be housed in West Bay. It is very expensive in comparison to the Mshereb area.
Be very aware that traffic from Mshereb to Sidra will be dire for the foreseeable future unless you are on shift work and can travel against traffic.
Lots of people like Mshereb because it is older and more interesting, has established businesses and restaurants within relatively good walking distance (when it starts to cool down).
If you have never lived in the GCC or a developing country, Mshereb can be a bit of a shock to the system. I have no doubt the building itself is acceptable, but as Qatar was named the 2nd most polluted country in the world by WHO this week, be prepared for a big change coming from a more developed country.
My partner has been placed here for accommodation and really likes it. As a single person the apartments are more than adequate however the area is under development. I would imagine if this is your first time out there, you are single and male it's fine but he did express how the location could be a little intimidating for women. This is not to say you are unsafe at all! If you are used to a very high standard complex, living amongst families then the apartments won't be to your standard. If you are moving country you would have done your research and know what to expect in terms of electrics and plumbing...not the best but he has told me that they have been more than accommodating at Sidra....the apartments are cleaned weekly including dishes and bedding and towels. There have been requests for those with children to move because they are high rise apartments converted from a hotel and not much of a social life for them. Please do not be put off because people have asked to be moved...they are the ones that have been in much better standard accommodation because of their grade and those with families which is totally understandable
Musherib is the old city center. Only a few years ago it was full of little Indian shops, tailors, hardware stores etc. It was recently cleared and a large development is being built there. So yes at the moment it is a huge building site, but should be nice in a few years.
It is close to the Souq which my favorite place to visit in the evening in Doha, close to the Corniche and Museums.
Everywhere you live in Doha you will need your own car or get taxis. There is no public transport to talk of and walking around in the heat is not an option.
Apart from the fact it is a construction site at the moment, it is also quite far from the hospital.
Hi Rubyblue
Thanks for your response-you've pretty much confirmed what I thought but it's really disappointing as I'd been led to believe that I'd be living in West Bay.
Does anyone know if Sidra show any flexibility in changing accommodation once it's been allocated? I'm moving out on my own so being in a good location is really important to me and I don't want my living arrangements to spoil my Doha experience!
ok- i know some people who have been housed here and it is not popular with them !- the area is one giant construction site and although the apartments are nice inside they feel overlooked as people can see in from across and so they have curtains pulled all time ! re the area there is really nothing around and they have to use taxis to get everywhere-you are nearer to the Jaidah flyover area- basically Al Rayyan Oasis is full now so all the singles and some married couples too are being placed here but a lot of people are not happy with it !! sorry to be the bearer of not great news but you will at least be with a lot of other people so if you do need to go out you can share taxi's etc....;)
Hi everyone
Sorry if this has already been covered in another thread-I have searched for it but couldn't find anything.
I am relocating from the UK and am starting work with Sidra next month I have been allocated an apartment in Saray Tower which is in the Musherib area. I'd hoped to be located in West Bay as I haven't been able to find out much about Musherib.
Does anyone know about this area? What things there are to do and see locally?
I'm a bit concerned that I'm going to be quite far out from the city centre without much to do locally so if anyone has any knowledge of the area that would be great.
Thanks in advance for your help.
