USPS delivery from USA

DS would like something for Christmas that involves ordering in the US and having delivery using USPS Priority International. USPS is the US parcel service rather than a courier service isn't it? They say 6-12 days delivery to Qatar, but will they already be bogged down by Christmas mail? What are the chances of the parcel finding it's way to an address in Qatar anyway? I can use DH's work address which has been proven to receive mail for us eventually (often 3 weeks for re-directed mail from UK). Has anyone ever received parcels via USPS and can tell me about the experience?

Hmm, what to do...?

I don't know about USPS delivery from the USA, BUT last Thursday evening (5:55 p.m. our time) I ordered some books through Amazon.ca. Monday morning at 10:55 a.m. they were delivered to my husband at work. Which means it took only 4 days for those books to make their way to me -- which includes having had to go through customs in the USA (according to the tracking information) and of course customs here in Doha. So... there might be hope. Especially since Amazon's orginal estimated date of delivery was January 7th. LOL ~ Deb PS they used DHL to send the books. edited by DebK on 06/12/2011

It's not up to the retailer whether or not to use Aramex - it's for you to arrange. You need to set up your own account with them and then they will give you a special address in America which you get your USA internet orders delivered to. It is then automatically forwarded on to Qatar. They have a booth in Landmark where you can sign up. I can highly recommend it - I get loads of things through there. They give you a UK address as well for buying things from British websites. And also a Chinese one, although I have yet to make use of that..... PS It's spelt Aramex, not Aramax :)

Thank you - I thought it might be a dodgy prospect. Must say, I hadn't factored in the Customs aspect. I'll ask if the company are willing to use Aramax, otherwise we'll have to ship to the UK and he can have it when he's back at school in January (of course that will mean paying duty... ).:(

Some people at DH's work have things delivered to the work address but I don't think there is any guarantee on times as the USPS cannot control customs as mentioned...Aramax on the other hand is reliable and only cost 35 usd to open and then you pay for weight.

I would not count on it - for me it takes around 3 to 4 weeks. I ship from Illinois - so I am not sure where you are shipping from? Also - need to consider time at Customs they might say 6 to 12 days but that is not door to door. Sorry......some companies will say anything to try and make a sale!
