Was at Landmark today and was pleasantly surprised that all of the above have opened or are nearly there since we left for Xmas break!!! Wafi Gourmet especially I can't wait for...we had it in Dubai and the food there was excellent...Drove past the back of the mall tonight and the place looks ready to open. All the furniture is in, lights, etc....yay, finally they've got a bee in their bonnet about opening things up! (it's only been about a year in the making)

You know what? We all are! We need to have more places that sell practical things as opposed to the impossibly expensive, impractical things (i'm looking at you Tavola)...Let's hope 2022 will be the incentive for all these business people to realize that we need things that make our lives easier, more practical and less stressful! Oh, and did i forget inexpensive too?

I am ridiculously excited about Lakeland opening here...my husband is seriously worried (the credit card may get a severe bashing!) Carluccios.....personally thought it was rather disappointing. the starter was quite good (had the anti-pasti) but the main courses were a little overcooked (king prawns), and my seafood linguine was slightly lacking in the seafood, it had clams in it, but they were so small that I've seen more meat on a mosquito! On the upside, it was lovely to be able to sit outside and enjoy a beer.....just a shame there was no proscuitto/salami/chorizo on the anti pasti plate!

Kimmc Lakeland should be opening mid Feb, the delayed contractors are due to hand over the store for merchandising on the 30th of Jan. They sell loads of cupcake items so everyone can make their own! this has been very popular in the UK. They also now sell an electrical cupcake maker which makes cakes in 9 - 10 min ready for decorating, you could even display your cupcakes masterpieces on the cupcake stand! Oh and not forgetting the cupcake pan which bakes a huge cupcake...    Most items that they sell in the UK will be stocked in the store with the exception of some food items, cleaning fluids, and electrical items due to restrictions etc.     :)

Who in their right mind would pay the best part of a UK fiver for a glorified fairy cake? I was at the Arabian stalls yesterday buying some coasters to take home and did a double take at the price list of the cupcakes. I'm glad that the Qatari dad walked away. Glad to see that even the well off have a bit of sense when it comes to parting with cash.

I was looking at the cupcake factory yesterday and yes could not believe the price! There were 5 Qatari kids there who had chosen a flavour each, they had been boxed, packed and bagged. Dad came over to pay... she said QR100 and he laughed and walked away. Kids were supset and ran after Dad but I'm very pleased to say, he shouted at them in Arabic that that was a stupid price (I presume!) and didn't go back. Hopefully enough people will do that!?

sega ofcourse at the end of the day we are here to share information and help each other know about places around Doha. as i said I'm sure u paid this amount but for the fancy designed cupcakes. The point is the store offers it's classic cupcakes in fair prices it's been like this since i know them more then a year ago i mean QR 100 per dozen is fair enough to me + i get my free delivery when I'm not in the mood to deal with Doha's traffic :)

MahaAli - we must agree to disagree on this one because I think I can remember how much I paid for a cupcake (in that case 3) or not. I will not gain anything by posting an incorrect, let alone exagerated comment here as the whole point is to share information but not to intentionally distort them and I certainly do not run a survey on prices in GCC countries. Thank you for your cheerful advice that I should try some more of their cupcakes but I for once, do not intend to do so. However, there is no reason for you not to keep enjoying something that you obviously enjoy a lot.

Sega The place near mega mart is called Tasmeem there cupcakes are qr 10 each and qr 100 per dozen which means you get 2 for free + FREE delivery. they have more then 12 flavors and they are freshly baked daily. you must bought the ones with special design but the most expensive cupcake in there with fancy design is no more then qr 15 each qr 150 per dozen. let's give them some credit they have the best prices in Doha if not in the GCC when it comes to cupcakes. I've been a regular customer in there they even have a cupcake catalogue which you can download from there website or facebook fan page. you should try there red velvet and chocolate creme cheese soo good. RachelA I can't wait for WAFI gourmet although I'm not a fan of lebanese cusine BUT this place made me change my mind amazing amazing food.

kimmc - your comment made me laugh soooo much :) I was also shocked about the price of the cupcakes but wanted to try so I got ONE to share with my DH, it was pretty disapointing...very dry! Last night we tried the cupcakes at the W cafe, they were MUCH better. Doha4now is right, they WERE cheaper at 17 QR/piece :) I guess Cupcake Factory needs a serious review of their cupcakes AND prices. As for Carluccio's - a couple of weeks ago we grabbed some food from there to eat at home, basically 3 different types of salad and polenta. The salads were good but I thought the grilled Polenta was AMAZING.

We went to Carluccio's on Friday, the standard of food was same as others i've been to but the service was chaotic! But I'm sure that will improve. Will be going back this weekend, it was the busiest restaurant on the Pearl. And it's great to get a glass of wine outside of a hotel! Can definitely recommend it.

I haven't been to Carluccio's yet, but have heard great things from friends who have been. It's supposed to be reasonably priced, and you can get wine. I'm going this weekend -- will report back!

so pleased that u ladies agree that Qr 20 for a cupcake is taking the micky. even the girl on the stand when i expressed my amazement at the price was giggling. I told her i could bake a dozen at home for that (gosh beginning to sound like my nana!). There was a great cupcake lady at one of Dogs in Doha events who had wonderful cupcakes with doggy faces on and she was half the price. So much to DD's annoyance no cakes for tea last night!

Crikey GinaM - at that price I would have sat on my son & forced every last crumb down his throat!!!! Madness.... Btw, does anyone have a clue as to when Lakeland at City Centre is opening - or is it one of those inshallah things?

Got quite a few friends who have been to Carluccios and are raving about it! :) You can even get a glass of wine at the Ritz for less than that cupcake was...now that sounds much better value to me! LOL (BTW...son didn't even eat the whole bl**dy thing!!!)

GinaM - I had similar experience at the one which sells party stuff in The Centre although I do not know whether it is Cupcake factory. I bought 3 and was unwise enough to check the price only when paying - it was QR20/each. A bit of a bitter-sweet taste after that, I must admit - mistake not to be repeated, for sure.

Also, as we're talking of new and exciting openings...has anyone been to the Carluccio's (the italian deli/cafe) or Dalloyau (the cafe/patisserie) at the Pearl? Wonder what they're like? What about the new cafe at the W? That's probably worth checking out and i bet even their cupcakes are cheaper than 25QR!

Boots is open and very well stocked...am so glad as i used to have to trek all the way to villagio for some of my family's fave toiletries etc...As for cupcake factory..that price is ridiculous. I lived in Dubai which had a ton of cupcake places and the most expensive is 12 Dhs and I thought that was silly...at the end of the day it's only flour and sugar!!! I'm interested also in just how tasty they are...had a look at the display and the cakes seemed a little dry and past their best. Mind you, at that price i'm not surprised if they'll just be left to go stale.

I bought my son a cupcake at cupcake factory in Villagio the other day. Was just a plain chocolate one with some smarties on it....QR25!! I nearly died and would have told them to keep it but would have had a very upset 5 year old as I had already agreed. Ridiculous price for a cupcake though and I definitely won't be giving them any more of my money.
