Hi
I will be moving to Abu Dhabi in August 2013' with my soon to be 13 year old son, we are joining my husband who has Ben here since Feb, I am currently here on our 2nd visit due to return to the UK on Saturday. We have moved into apartment this week on Al Nayan Camp (my be spelt wrong) and we have secured a place at Al Khubairait School , for my son who will be going into year 9 from September, I am now looking forward to moving out here and hope to join the coffee mornings at Al Wada mall, so hope they are still going come August/September, We are moving here from South Wales and really hope we can settle here and make it our home for many years to come. I would love to hear from anyone and am interested in your experiences of life in Abu Dhabi , many thanks

Last night in my UK house tonight and looking forward to meeting Busy Bee at the Sixth form enrolment day on Wednesday. Been a long hard slog but almost there! Can't wait to sleep on something other than this damn blow up mattress ! Good luck I know how that feels.......been here in AbuDhabi nearly 3weeks now and I couldn't wait to sleep on a proper bed and it on a proper sofa either after packing our UK home up too, just waiting for weather to cool down a bit now , and my 13 year old son starts school on Sunday so new routine will start then hopefully x

Laughing as we really are all in the same boat. I'm giving up work and am worried about going stir crazy without a job. I'm a qualified teacher from the uk so if any of your kids need tuition please let me know as really can't twiddle my thumbs all day! Looking forward to seeing you all soon. My husband and I are moving to Abu Dhabi in 2 weeks time. We'll be living in short term rental place on Yas island till we find a more permanent place.

I shall look forward to meeting you in the flesh in August, Busy bee, as you have been so very helpful since I have been on this forum. My son and I will not be arriving until 27th August and so we will not have much time to get him sorted before term starts on the following Sunday. I will no doubt be picking your brains prior to our arrival so will definitely owe you at least a coffee when we do meet up! no problem, pick away...... we are in the middle of exams (as you know) at the moment.... what fun, driving up and down wacky races many more times in the day. today is a public holiday, but we had 2 exams and revision club, so thats been 4 times there and back again...

Lovely to know we will all be in same boat then, or have been through the same situation already, are any of you working out there or thinking of looking for work, I'm currently working for the DWP in UK, but will obviously be finishing before I move out! Think that has been one of the biggest things for me to get my head around is the fact I will be giving up work , having worked since I was 17 (47) now just wondered how people have adjusted etc , any feedback would be appreciated Thanks Yvette x Hi Yvette I know what you mean about the work situation. I am the same as you having worked since the age of 16 (and being ever so slightly older than you!). I am hoping that I will find plenty to fill my days and intend to throw myself at any opportunity for socialising that comes my way. I think we have to look at the whole thing as a brilliant new chapter in our lives and make the most of our time .... Look forward to meeting you "on the other side" Wendy

Thanks for comments back in the UK now, until August but really looking forward to coming out now and getting settled, My son is really looking forward to starting at BSAK on the 1st September, yes it will be very nice to meet and make new friendships etc, big challenges ahead but hopefully everything will run smoothly for us all , look forward to meeting you x obviously abu dhabi is very transient so people come and go, and the kids are very good in school about it, you definately dont feel that you are the only "new kid" etc. and as i say in year 9 a lot of newbies too in that year.

nearly right, its called al nayhan camp after the ruling family name. good area to go to bsak, up salam st and off the next exit quite a bit of traffic but not too bad. i have kids in year 9 and 11 at the moment so a year above you, you are lucky to get into bsak, but year 9 is one of the easier years to get into because a lot of people move back to the uk at that time for various reasons. dont worry if there arent any organised coffees i am here most of the time so we could meet up and give you all the inside information for bsak lol
