Hi

My husband may be offered a job in Abu Dhabi in the very near future. When we tried to talk about this to our kids 11 year old girl and 8 year old boy, the kids especially our daughter did not want to hear about it and she doesn't want to talk about it. She just said no way. Obviously we are worried about this and don't know what to do about it.

Did anyone who made this move with kids this age when they moved (11) had these problems? Did their children settled eventually or did they have a difficult time settling in?

Thanks:(

We also recently made the move with our children. Despite our fears, they easily adapted. It is so much easier to keep in touch these days, with FB, skype and e-mail. Before we left the UK, I made sure that I collected e-mail addresses and that I was 'friends' on FB with my boys friends' mums so that we could communicate. They are now so well settled that like Louise, I think we might have a problem when it comes time to move along!

I was in the very same boat as you 4 yrs ago. I have two boys and they were also 11 and 8 when we made the move and had the same reactions! Believe me know what you are going through. The good news is that they did settle in very easily, not quickly they still made us feel guilty when it suited them, but they did settle and loved making friends from all over the world. In fact we might be on the move again and they are giving us up hill because now they want to stay here!!! go figure!!! Make the move it's a great adventure!
