Was asked to post this by my friend Jay.

Having been told about the Radio 2 comp to win a holiday all the family listened for the cue to sms when the cue record was played with the context of the text being Raddison Blu and your name. About 7.40pm the tune came on so we all grabbed our phones to text. The tune could not have even played when they had called someone and edited the call and put it out just after the end of the song. It is So wrong, they have called someone early on in the tune and pre recorded a winner to air after the end of the tune. What happens to people who hear the tail end of the song or half way through. It is wasted money texting. They have deleted the thread now but said 99% of people sms within the first 30 seconds of the tune................does that make it fair on all the others who may not text in within the first 30 seconds, the tune was 4 mins long therefore leaving 3 1/2 mins of votes uncounted and money wasted. They had the bare faced nerve to call this person bitter, how unfair is this competition if you have to text within the first 30 seconds, agree while the tune is playing is fine but this audio clip was all done and dusted by the end of the tune.

I have a friend who works at Radio 1 & 2 I showed him this post and he says there is a lot of false information here. They pick the winner in towards the end of the song and this case in particular the call was done live!. A lot of people do sms in the first 30 seconds, that is what they were probably trying to say. Of course you check the person hasn't won the [b'>same[/b'> [b'>prize[/b'> or already gone in a draw, that makes it fairer, he says that doesn't mean they can't win another prize!. I wish people would just get the facts before they accuse a company of fixing something, it's damaging and quite un-true. A fix is when you pre pick a winner before a competition...which is clearly not the case here and there are strict guidelines on this!

My friend has just spoken to Radio 2 and they say that they make a note of winners so someone cannot win again, surely that's not right. It should be a n even draw? if thats the case, it was my son that won the prize but used my phone, it was a question about star wars, i wouldnt know. so best next time to use a different phone

my son has won a prize on radio 1 and its done on your phone number, they make sure thats correct then they will ring you up at a later date and organise the collection, usually its all in dubai, but when i said i lived in abu they organised for it to be collected here and you just go to the gulf news offices in town, not a big problem, they had loads of vouchers there. Obviously with meal vouchers etc, its quite often for places in dubai and so you do have to drive up the road if you want to use them, but you have to be in it to win it, if its too inconvenient or you dont like the prize then save your dirhams for when something you like comes along.

But even if you win it is really difficult to get your prize. My DS won dinner for two last year. He was congratulated on the radio, however no one contacted us to explain how to claim the prize. I text the station for two days, with no response. I then found a phone number on the internet, was passed around radio 2 personel, and eventually was told to go to Dubai to collect the voucher!!! I negotiated and it was delivered to their offices in Abu Dhabi - it would have been easier and cheaper to just buy dinner for 2!!! edited by sewingb on 01/06/2011

it said listen out for Amadeus when you hear the tune text in Raddison Blu to 5180, it was the fact that when Jay questioned it they said big percentage of people voted within 30 seconds, okay so the tune lasts for 4 mins. So all the other sms' at 4 dirhams after the 30 seconds are disregarded. Hardly fair is it?

The competetion started before your friend tuned into Radio 2. What happended is when a winner is clled, they just play a clip of the song again.

Most people don't have a message and number typed in at the ready, 30 seconds is not a fair competition. If they say sms in during the tune then it should be the duration of the tune.

I don't see what the problem is to be honest - if they say be the first to text in when you her the song, that means when you hear the song if you are listening in and not 3 minutes in to the song. The whole point of it is they are trying to get people to listen in for a longer period of time.
